Hello all,

I am applying to a number of post-bacc programs. Bryn Mawr and Goucher are the two that I am most interested in. Does anybody have any direct experience with the programs? If you have participated in them, can you mention any good points (or bad points)? I just want to be able to make an informed decision (not to assume that I will even get in).

Thanks

As far as Goucher is concerned, if you ever have taken two or more pre-med courses (they actually say science courses) don't even waste your time applying. They simply don't think that it is fair to consider students who have a science background to out weigh non-science students in the program. Their program is exclusively designed for students of non-science background. FYI, this is what I have heard from the program director.

Good luck

I am currently an undergrad at bryn mawr and am thinking about doing a post bacc program, however not at bryn mawr because I can't stand the thought of being another year here. However, the program is excellent and had I not gone to undergrad here it would have been one of my top choices. I am familiar with the professors and the biology department and they are all first rate. The campus is nice. Philadelphia is a wonderful city and very close, although I'm sure as a post bacc you wont get out too much. The post bacc students I have met seem very smart and extremely dedicated. They seem to be a cohesive and supportive group. Hope this helps.

Just a clarification on the Goucher comment: I attended Goucher and there were at least 5 students out of 35 who had completed a year (or two consecutive courses) of one basic science before attending. They either opted out of summer Chemistry I&II or took more advanced Biology in leu of Biology or Physics. If you have taken more than 2 the admissions committee may not be as open. It may be possible that they would prefer those who have less, but certainly don't write it off if you have taken 2 classes prior.
