Hi there,

I'm a college freshman and looking to apply to medical/dental school later on. My school (university of toronto) places a limit on the number of first-year courses that count toward your cGPA. Only 12 first-year courses will count.

I've already taken 12 but still have to complete the physics pre-requisite for dental school, which is another 2 courses. I am technically allowed to take the course-- it just won't be calculated into the gpa given by my university. Would this be an issue when I'm applying to US dental schools? And will these physics courses be calculated in my DENTAL SCHOOL GPA? They will still see the mark I get in the physics courses on my transcript.

Sorry if my question sounds confusing

thanks for the help

I'm not sure but I would actually email the admissions of a few medical schools and ask them yourself! That would be a wise idea in my opinion. Also, my guess would be that if you took the course and it was graded they would still count it as a prereq and it shouldn't be an issue. Again I'm not sure so definitely ask someone who can give you a very definite answer.

If you apply to US med schools all grades earned will be included in your application GPA. If you want to apply to US dental schools, you'll get the best information by asking in the Pre-Dental forum further down on SDNs forum list. This is the Pre-Medical forum.
