Please steer me toward a previous thread on this subject if one exists. Do most schools of pharmacy count a cummulative gpa or just your pre-pharmacy curriculum? I graduated with a B.A. in History in 1991. I was a fool and just barely got my degree.

These days, as a serious father of two young girls, I am going back to school and will do whatever it takes to ace my pre-pharm requirements. However, if my young dumb days weigh me down, I'll be DOA.

Any thoughts?

Don't worry about your past grades. I know many people that do not have a flawless gpa and have been admitted to the pharmacy school of their choice, even with a 2.5 gpa cummulative gpa and 3.5 pre-req gpa. Although pharmacy schools do look at cummulative gpa, they place more emphasis on your pre-pharmacy grades. I would suggest for you to ace all of your pre-pharm reqs and make sure that you raise your cummulative gpa as high as possible. When applying to pharmacy school, there is typically a supplemental section asking if your grades reflect who you are as a person. So there are opportunity for you to explain yourself. Good luck and don't give up.

I know here in tx they mostly look at pre-pharm grades. Especially the science / math courses out of the pre-reqs. I don't see how any school can place a heavy emphasis on overall GPA since it would place applicants on uneven footing. By looking at just pre reqs they can evaluate applicants by the same criteria.

They do look at cumulative GPA and pharmcas reports a cumulative GPA plus a pre-req GPA.

I would make an appointment with the admissions staff of the school(s) you are interested in and talk to then frankly about your situation. Get their advice and heed it.

You should be able to overcome this, especially if you do well in all your pre-reqs and get a good score on the PCAT.

Good luck!
