I was one of those applicants with low stats due to goofing off in school 20 years ago. My overall was around a 3.15, but my pgpa was a 3.8 and my last 60 hours was a 3.9. Anyway, I applied to 12 schools and ended up getting interview offers at 5 of them. I ended up getting accepted early in the process and only ended up attending one interview. Plus there are still a couple schools I haven't heard from yet. Looking back, I wish I had not applied to so many. I also firmly believe that pre-req GPA is the most important. Mine was high. That and my last 60 hours were the only highlights of my application. I didn't study for the GRE. I just winged it and ended up with a very average V153 Q145 AW4.0. I had an outstanding essay also, but you have to get the ADCOM to look at your application or that wonderfully entertaining story of your life ends up at the local dump🙂

Nice. Congrats on getting through this process and getting the acceptance you wanted. 👍

I'm actually going to miss taking classes at my local community college haha. It helped raise my cumulative GPA from a 3.48 at UC Irvine to a 3.59 . However, I do want to say, I've had some of my best professors at these community colleges. My physiology professor actually teaches at UCI Medical school, and I learned a lot from his classes (had him for Bio-chem too). And there seems to be a lot of students from good schools taking post bacc classes at these community colleges, especially in the science classes. I had classmates from UCLA, UCI, and UCSD. So I would highly recommend taking post bacc classes and pre-req classes at your local community college to raise your GPA cuz it seems that most schools don't care where you take your pre-reqs. Also, the class sizes are small so you can get to know your professors well and have them write good letter of Recs. My 2 letters were from my Anatomy and Speech teachers from my community colleges. :pompous:

Keep your chin up🙂. You're going to a great school and you're going to be a Physical Therapist! The schools that accepted you really want you and believe you will be a great fit. Things happen for a reason🙂

Thank you! 🙂 This was a very kind thing to say. I felt better about the professors at UMES and I'm excited to travel around, if I end up going there. Maybe this is the push I needed to get out of California for a while haha

This rejection is really hitting me hard. No interview, nothing. I've already started to give up on the fact that I'll get in anywhere this cycle. There are so many more qualified applicants than me that I feel that I'm just being overlooked. I don't even think CSUF is going to accept me or even Pacific. I don't know and sorry to seem like a debbie downer but getting so many rejections can really take an emotional toll on a person. Anyways, good luck to all of you and congrats to everyone that got accepted.

Congrats, BAKE! How long after your offer from GW did you hear about the scholarship? Was it something separate you applied for, or just based on your stats?
Good luck making your decision!

I'm also from California, so I understand your frustration of feeling like your application is being overlooked. It's so competitive here for every single school, even the expensive private schools, and then out of state schools are generally more expensive unless you go to a really nice school in Texas or something like that.

It looks like you have a few schools to hear back from still? Also, your pre-req GPA is killer, so you can handle PT school. I wouldn't give up just quite yet. I'm also waiting to hear back from CSUF, so hopefully we both get in!

What happened with West Coast and Fresno...those interviews were 2 and 3 weeks ago and you still haven't heard back? And didn't you say you had gotten an interview from Pacific U?

Do you know what spots you are on the 3 waitlists that you've gotten?

Looks like you haven't heard anything back from about 6 schools still...no word at all from those?

Also, I wouldn't be be surprised at all if you snuck in a really late interview from Midwestern Glendale in March or something. They have a terrible matriculation rate.

I really hope we both get in. This process can be so frustrating for some, such as myself, that don't have really great stats. My last 60 units and pre-req are awesome but I know my GRE and cGPA are really killing me. >_< However, I do appreciate the empathy and hope for good things for the both of us.

WestCoast is probably my best bet. From my perspective, I felt really good about the interview and made sure to talk to most of the professors afterwards. Hell, I was one of the last few people to linger around campus, speaking with the Dean. And I made sure I sounded interested in their program, which I genuinely am. But I haven't heard anything from them yet. I know WCU has their second group of interviews happening already this weekend. So hopefully after this interview group, I'll hear back from them in the close upcoming weeks. But with the amount of great stats I see on hear, I'm not so sure they'll see me as a concrete candidate for their program.

As far as CSUF, I felt I did fairly well with their interview and did my best to look and sound presentable. But then again, the great stats I see of everyone is making me feel that I'm being overshadowed. Chapman hasn't sent any correspondence that I've heard about for awhile. Nova, not sure what number I am but I know they don't start looking at the waitlist until middle of March. Lynchburg, they couldn't divulge my position on the waitlist.

All of this is just starting to compound and it's making me very very nervous going into my Pacific University interview. So I'm trying my best not to let all this get to me, because I know I have to do WELL with this upcoming interview or lose it all and have to start over with next year's application cycle. :bang::bang::bang:

Dude. These feels. I'm seriously biting my fingernails until your next update.

When do you think West Coast will be sending out acceptances? I am getting impatient

Well, they are having their second weekend interview group currently. So I would assume that in 2-3 weeks from now we should be hearing from them at least. I was hoping to hear from them sooner but I feel your anxiety, I'm starting to get restless not hearing from them since the interview.

WCU will probably send them out a couple days after this weekend is my guess. Seems like this weekend is perhaps their first or second round aggregated? I cancelled my interview tomorrow so hopefully that helps you all out...unless they send a replacement which is very likely as well. :X

I'm hoping being given an interview the first weekend that it would place me in a better position for acceptance, since they are on rolling admission according to PTCAS. HOWEVER, I read somewhere that this and last interview group weekend were all placed within the same round. So I don't know how I feel about that piece of information and my chances for acceptance.

If you have the means, go to schools that don't do interviews such as Nova and schedule tours. That's the way to become more than a name on a folder. Its a competition to get accepted anywhere, so do whatever it takes to go that extra mile or do things that other applicants are not doing such as tours.

I'm surprised you haven't received an acceptance yet, as you have a great pre-req GPA. Have you thought about applying to St. Augustine (San Marcos)? I know some people who did not get in their first application cycle, but were able to get accepted there during their 2nd attempt. Since the school doesn't use PTCAS, they probably don't receive as many applications. It also is a trimester, so I believe you can apply multiple times during the year.

I hope you get in man! You seem to have great motivation to reach your dreams...don't give up!

This is going to be my last update for this cycle. Like I said in my last post, my situation has changed and I will be unable to leave the PNW for school. I had a lot of talks with my wife and we cannot justify the debt we would accrue if I decided to attend an out of state private school, especially since we both have undergrad loans already. I am only 24, so I have so much time to get into my dream career. I have learned so much this application cycle and will be more competitive next year. Got a new job in a PT clinic so my letters of rec should be much stronger. That paired with an improved GRE, more observation settings, and better pGPA I believe I will have a strong case for a spot in a DPT program. Hopefully the 3rd time's the charm! Congrats to those accepted!

To those who haven't been accepted please remember that rejections are not reflections of who you are as a person. ADCOMs have hundreds of applications to sift through and can only fill ~40 seats. This means they are forced to reject qualified applicants every year because there simply isn't enough room. This is how the system works, and it sucks. Take solace in the fact that you did all you could to get in, and everything else is out of your control. All these hardships will pay off eventually, and we will all become PTs!

This is spot on! Best of luck in the next cycle! I'm sure you will find a program that fits for you!

Great to hear so many people getting into PT school!

I will not be applying this cycle but thought I would share anyways for this fall. I went through the process a couple years ago and was stuck on 4 waiting lists. Decided to enroll in a Masters in Sports Medicine program and love it. Have a lot of control over the courses I am taking that will help with PT school. Also, plan on getting my CSCS and starting my thesis work soon. I realize I don't have the strongest cGPA or GRE score but going to research 7-10 schools who look betyond that. Hope it all works out!

I don't normally like posting about stats and stuff, but I found everyone elses' posts so helpful and was hoping that my data might help someone too! What I learned from this whole process: 1) apply early, and 2) don't apply to too many schools! I learned this the hard way haha. It's a waste of money and as long as you thoroughly research each program to determine which ones you have the best chance with you'll be fine 🙂

Also, it's NEVER too late to improve your application! I finished my 2nd year in college with a GPA of ~3.0-3.1 and had to work like crazy to bring it up. Just set your goals high and make it happen:clap:

Thank you! 🙂 This was a very kind thing to say. I felt better about the professors at UMES and I'm excited to travel around, if I end up going there. Maybe this is the push I needed to get out of California for a while haha
I think gettin' away from California will be a great experience for me personally. I've lived in Irvine my entire life (I literally went to elementary school, high school, and college within a 5 mile radius of each other:wideyed:). I am itching to live in a brand new environment, and move away from this boring sunny nice weather all the time. I can't wait to be able to ski during winter time and witness the colors of the trees turn bright red during Fall . Plus, it will help me grow up and finally allow me to move out of my parents house!! :soexcited:I'm gonna miss my dog though🙁

Did you find out about Uri rejection via email or snail mail, ...I still haven't heard back :wtf:

:pompous:

Did you find out about Uri rejection via email or snail mail, ...I still haven't heard back :wtf:
Na, not yet...I've been expecting a rejection e-mail or letter for a while now, especially after talking to the head of admissions and being informed that most of the class has matriculated already. I'm guessin' that it just takes a while for mail to get delivered haha.

It's too bad cuz I would have been tempted to go there, as I enjoyed the city, program and PT building. And it's also $30K cheaper than UNE.

Nice. 👍

Yeah, I've lived in the central valley my entire life, except for 4 years in the bay area. It'd be nice to move away for a few years, and I'll also be missing all my pets. 5 cats and 4 dogs at my house! It sounds like moving away is best for the both of us. 🙂

If you have the means, go to schools that don't do interviews such as Nova and schedule tours. That's the way to become more than a name on a folder. Its a competition to get accepted anywhere, so do whatever it takes to go that extra mile or do things that other applicants are not doing such as tours.

What are your thoughts on Lynchburg's waitlist? You might have a good shot at getting accepted there still? Anyway Im in a similar situation and hope you hear some good news soon. Good luck.

Congrats, BAKE! How long after your offer from GW did you hear about the scholarship? Was it something separate you applied for, or just based on your stats?
Good luck making your decision!

Hey thanks JP! I interviewed at GW on 12/6, accepted 12/10 and scholarship offer randomly came via email last week (2/9?). It was unexpected and nothing I applied for separately; I'm thinking they offer them after they've accepted and gotten deposits from the majority of their students. That's the only thing I can think of since I did put down my deposit 12/31. I don't know many more details regarding the scholarship as more details are "in the mail" so... I can let you know specifics once I know, if you're interested. And there's about a 75% chance as of now that I will be turning it down.. so it may be your lucky day if you are waiting to hear about a GW scholarship! 🙂

I've got an interview at GFU that same day. I would be interested to hear what you think of GFU compared to the other programs you applied to or got accepted into. Not sure if a new program would be a good thing or annoying.

I like the school overall. There are a few concerns as far as it being a new program, such as a pretty limited range of clinical affiliations, although it should be accredited in a few months at least. One thing to consider is that apparently once they become accredited (should be starting in the fall), they are planning on raising tuition to about ~100k overall, which is quite unfortunate...

Congratulations!! What did you do to improve your stats?/your post-bacc work

Thanks navybluedreams! 🙂 After the end of my 2nd year, I studied like CRAZY to try to bring up my GPA as much as possible. All my post-bacc classes were pre-reqs. For example, I took a different introductory stats class in place of the upper division stats class I took in undergrad but didn't do too well in, so PTCAS just took the A instead of averaging them. I didn't have time to re-take most of my prereqs from my 1st two years, so I mostly focused on creating a dramatic rising trend in my GPA over my 4 year undergrad period, then mentioned that in my explanation for the PTCAS question regarding if my grades accurately reflected my academic ability (along with an explanation for why my grades were so low the 1st two years haha).

I also spent a lot of time focusing on getting a lot of experience hours in as many different setting as possible to try to stand out to the schools and also show them how serious I was about applying. I'm actually still volunteering now, partially because I really like it but also to show the schools I'm still working to learn as much as possible before going to school.

oh man, I was having this massive internal debate in my head whether I should fill that section out. That section to me read "Put your best valid excuse here". Did it in the end but I do wonder how schools look at it.

I understand how you're feeling. I'm still waiting on ONE acceptance as well. Your stats look pretty good, better than mine, and you still have a few to hear back from. So hopefully you gain at least ONE acceptance. Good Luck!
How do you feel your interview at West Coast went? I had mine done a few weeks ago and still waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully it went well for you.

Yeah, I'm already preparing myself for the worst. I'm taking a few classes to raise my GPA and preparing to take the GREs again. I'm also looking for a PT aide job around the area to get a lot more hours.

I felt as though the West Coast interview went well; however, I feel as though everyone felt as if it went well haha. So I'm not too sure where that leaves me on getting into that school. How did yours go? Hopefully we get in!! We should be getting acceptance/rejection letters around March. Before seeing the school I was a bit skeptical about their program, but the tour totally sold me. Fingers crossed for the both of us 🙂

Yeah I definitely agree with you! I wasn't sure what to do but in the end replied stating that my GPA from my final 2 years of undergrad more accurately reflected my academic capability since there was a pretty large different from my 1st two years and I wanted to highlight that. I was also hoping that my explanation would allow those reviewing my application to get a better understanding of me and my journey leading up to applying.

I'm hoping that as long as we had a really good explanation then it should be fine! I like to think they put that question there for a reason other than confusing us haha

@jy88 @Ibby33 It's so nice to be able to talk to my future classmates. I'm coming from the suburbs of NY. If y'all wanna talk or meet up if you're in the area, then DM me! Just so we don't clutter up this thread 🙂
@boopy @jy88 @Ibby33 ... So I couldn't stay in the shadows any longer after seeing this. Looks like January 17th was a good day. In fact, @jy88 , I believe we sat next to each other - the whole "VCU, huh? what a small world!" bit might ring a bell. So congratulations folks!! I'm certainly looking forward to the next three years. And of course, please loop me in on any local pre-fall rendezvous! Cheers! -K.

I have no idea, I was wondering if anyone had any details on this

@DjT3kN @rsdPT I know EXACTLY how you're feeling! My stats are extremely similar to yours & I was fortunate enough to get accepted into a developing program this cycle. I am beyond excited because it's an in-state school & I'll be a part of a charter class! I interviewed on 1/23 and was accepted via phone call on 1/27! I thought my stats were mediocre, but during my interview I was told my stats were great! I also had 3 really strong LOR & a good essay! So please, please don't get discouraged!!

I'm also waiting to hear back from U of Miami, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get in!

My Stats:
Overall GPA (PTCAS): 3.27
Pre-Req GPA: 3.38
GRE: 151Q, 149V, 3.5AW
Observation Hours: Occupational Health- 30, Acute Care Hospital- 40, Nursing Home- 40, Outpatient- 520

I think they are trying to see if you're the type of person who makes excuses and blame everyone and everything but yourself or if you own your own mistakes and give an honest assessment of what happened in your academic career. They can obviously just look at the grade trend and see when the light came on. I think they are giving you rope to see if you climb it or hang yourself 🙂. That's the only thing that makes sense to me anyway.
