I just looked at the stats on the EWU website for the class that entered in 2010, and your GPAs kill their averages, so I would say you have a really good shot there! 🙂

Y'all in WA are so lucky to have such good PT programs with reasonable in-state tuition rates. I was thinking of applying to UW earlier, but their out-of-state tuition is mucho $$$.

I applied to Mayo, NAU, and Cal State Northridge (CSUN). I'm interviewing at Mayo next Thurs. Here's hoping that we both get interviews at NAU in a couple of months!

Thanks so much for the tip, but now I'm confused... I emailed the contact person at UW over the summer and she told me it's "very difficult to change residence in the State of Washington" and "if you start our program as a non-resident, the chances are very good you will remain a non-resident for all 3 program years. There is no graduate tuition waiver for students in the UW DPT program."

Do you think she just didn't want me to count on eventually getting cheaper tuition? If you have an alternate source of info that you might not want to post on the board, please PM me.

SO I have to take back what I said before. Apparently UW is discontinuing their graduate student fee waiver program effective June 1st, 2012....

Waiting is the worst for me. After 11 months of hard work I just want to be accepted so I can relax.

It sounds like Texas State has made their 1st round of decisions and the answers are in the mail. Please let me get mine today 🙂

How did your interview at Mayo go???

Honestly, it was hard to gauge -- all the questions were behaviorial, and I remember reading somewhere that the "correct" way to conduct a behavioral interview is to not react to a candidate's answers since this helps "coach" the candidate. My interviewer was very good at doing the poker-face thing. 😛

It was my first behavioral interview ever, and I didn't feel like my answers were particularly strong, but who knows? I'm used to getting some kind of feedback from people's faces, and not having it kinda weirded me out. 😳

The day overall, however, was really really nice; I came in with high expectations and I understand now why everyone raves. 🙂

Anyone interview at Rosalind Franklin today? I'm wondering how they gauge people from their interviews. It was one 30 minute interview for FOUR students. So it broke down to about 4-5 minutes total at the end per person of interview time.... I wonder how they pick from that?

OK so I keep compulsively checking this site to weigh my odds of getting into a program somewhere so I might as well ask for you guys opinions...
I graduated in 2010 with a BS in Kines. and took some time off to work and figure things out... thought I wanted to do the nursing thing and wound up working as a therapy assistant in a chiro office while doing some prereqs for that. I had an epiphany and now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I'm going to be a PT (nursing was more of an 'i guess maybe ill try that')

CGPA: 3.124 (definite upward trend)
Prereq. GPA: ~3.2
Upper div GPA: 3.44
GRE v: 490 q: 630 a:4.0
Experiences: one year as a personal trainer (full-time), ~300 hours as a therapy assistant at a chiro office (dont count as PT observation)
Observation: 45 hours at two different outpatient clinics, one specializes in peds

I would like to stay reasonably close to family... I'm from Indiana, but my parents are moving to Florida so I'm looking at a lot of schools there since the two PT programs here are INSANELY competitive.

I'm looking at FGCU, UCF, Nova, FIU, Rockhurst, SW Baptist, and USA (although there's no way I'll be able to get another 35 hours and two PT LORs by 12/15)

Obviously my gpa is mediocre at best and ideally I should make up for that with obs. hours, but I just dont have time before the due dates. Im hoping I can pull off an absolutely mind blowing essay to help things out a bit, but what are you guys thoughts on my situation? Since I know it's what I want to do, I'll do what it takes and wait if I have to... its just so frustrating finally figuring it out and then having to sit around. Any words of advice or even a boost of morale would be greatly appreciated.

I used several paragraphs discussing personal values for physical therapists, but just one longer paragaph about how I got into PT and additional info for the admissions committee. I typed it in a word document with all of the questions pasted in, and it totaled out to be 2,139 words (including the question text.) Hope that helps!

Well foremost, I need to figure out if I can come up with the deposit in time. Honestly, I am leaning towards UTHSC because I loved the facilities I saw on interview day and I know people in the Memphis area unlike Johnson City. Plus, it would allow me to keep my application in with the Army's program so if I were to get selected I would not have any issue with accepting the offer. However the cost of living is probably quite a bit cheaper in JC than Memphis. The only other thing holding me up is the prospect of getting started/finished a few months earlier.

Ultimately, I just need to mull it over the next few days and get some input from my family/friends.

well if you have any questions about the Memphis area & housing near/around UTHSC, then just shoot me an email ([email protected]). also, they accept a decent size class (60-70 usually) so i know a facebook page will be made at some point with info on those needing roommates to split rent, popular areas that students live in, etc. I don't know much about JC, but if you're looking to spend the next three years in an area with city life then Memphis would be it. (Unrelatedly, just saw your ECs -- does the US Nat'l Speed Skating Team have facilities/conduct research in WI?? I'm interested in skating biomechanics and thought I'd have to head to UDel to have any hope of exposure).

Thanks corkscrew!! I am very excited, it is an awesome program. I attended the "meet the program last" event year and was very impressed too. Are you applying for this year or next?

Yes, I did work with the US National Speed Skating Team at the Pettit Center in Milwaukee when I was a Kines grad student at UWM. I primarily did more physiology work with them, but we also did a little biomechanics as well. Are you interested in skating in general, or speed skating specifically?
