Hi! I am curious about the interview at UNE , I am scheduled for feb. 2. What was like? what questions and how was the essay part? any feedback is appreciated.

Hi Guys, I am new on this site as I started preparing for DPT about a year ago.
My first degree was in Electronics Engineering . As it is, I have the stats below:

Prerequisite GPA : 4.00/4.00
Last 60 hours GPA: 3.45
Shadowing experience: 90 hours

What are my chances of getting into a PT school with this stat. I had applied to UNT but have not heard from them yet. I am planning to apply to other schools after my GRE. Any advise here will be appreciated.

I've heard of some schools accepting a 2.9, while other's accepting a 3.6 absolute minimum. It varies depending on the school, but the average accepted is around 3.5 I think. That's all for cumulative. Some schools look especially at last 60 credit hours, pre-req, and GRE. Beyond that, what also helps your chances a lot is applying early.

abasimike------ be sure to check the application due dates for any programs for which you are applying and be aware many have rolling adms and fill their classes before the posted due date. Your prereq GPA look great it is the overall that will matter more than the last 60-at least when they do preliminary cuts. Good luck on the GRE.......also note many programs have cut off dates for taking the test.

just got denied at uw-madison...still have apps in at lacrosse, milwaukee, u of mary, u of minn, cuw, carrol u, and dmu...really hope i get in so i dont have to sit around for a year

Hi Guys, I definitely appreciate your information on my concerns. I now have a better insight on what I need to do to secure admission. If I can't make it next year, then I'll have a better chance of doing so a year after. Thanks.

Please help!!! Am I too late to apply for the 2011-2012 academic year ???? I recently took GRE and I got low score; also, it seems that I am running out of time to complete my observation hours --- I started my observation hours early this fall semester then I couldn't finish them because I was too busy studying for my fall semester exams. Now After the fall semester was over, I took the GRE this morning and I didn't do that well. Later on today, I called the places I used to shadow at but they said that they have other students shadowing;;;; Do you guys think that it will look alright if I mention (in PTCAS application) that my observation hours in progress till I finish them.
Should I just go ahead and apply?
Is it too late for me to apply?
When should I submit my PTCAS application if I am interested to apply to Thomas Jefferson University?

Any advise would be appreciated

Thank you all

You aren't too late. PTCAS has a list of school with their application deadlines. I just submitted another application last week. Just focus on your volunteer hours. Call around until you can find an outpatient clinic where you can do 20-30 hours in a week. I've heard the rule of thumb is have 70% of the required hours completed. Don't give up. You can do it 🙂

If anyone has heard anything from these schools please let me know what my chances are or what they think about them?!

Good luck to everyone! 🙂

I interviewed at Belmont and got a letter in the mail on Saturday (I got waitlisted). I was waitlisted at UTC as well. But did get into UTHSC in Memphis, thank the Lord! I know that UAB starts their programs in January unlike many programs that start in the fall, so that may be part of the delay on hearing back from them. Good luck to you!

It's a lot of schools but I figure the more schools I apply to, the more of a chance I get to be accepted into a school.

Wait listed: Southwest Baptist

Acceptances: None yet.

Rejections: Samuel Merrit, Regis

Wait listed for an interview at USA. Weird, right?

Crossing my fingers and toes I'll be one of the lucky few to get into PT school despite having such a low cGPA. I've been taking post-bacc classes ever since I graduated to try and pull my GPA up.

Thanks for sharing your stats and info. Can you tell me more about the USA interview wait list? Did they email you or call you? USA is my first choice and my GPA is low from my undergrad too so I may be in the same boat.

Hey Maya, USA is one of my top choices too. I applied for the Summer Session, Oct. 1 due date. They emailed me on Nov. 29 simply saying I meet all the requirements but was put on the waitlist for a potential late January interview because they had such a large volume of applicants. They also said that if I don't get off the waitlist they would forward my application to the Fall applicant pool at no extra charge.

When I called them before soon after the Oct. 1 due date, the lady I spoke with told me they had 30% more applicants for the summer compared to their winter/spring program. I spoke with someone else on the USA forum and he/she said they were put on the waitlist because they received his transcripts late. I would just call them. Every person I've spoke to was very nice and super helpful. I hope that helps and that you hear from them soon!

Kind freaking out b/c I haven't heard anything from Miami which is my first choice and feel that my stats should put me in contention for sure. I have to give Nova a non-refundable deposit of $1000 by the 16th.

Just Curious; why is Miami your first choice? Have you been emailed and offered an interview slot? They started the interview process a few months ago. If not email or call them and inquire . I know of a few people that interviewed and were offered admission about three weeks after via certified mail. the good thing is that you were offered admission to two schools . as a back up plan which do you prefer/ Do you think that the higher tuition that Nova charges is worth it over FIU?

I was looking for schools in the south Fl area as my boyfriend of 7 years works in Boca. Miami is my first choice b/c of the schools in this area Miami is definitely the top ranked and reviewed school. All of my interactions to date have been really good with them as well. I have not had an interview or anything from them yet, which is what worries b/c I think my stats are competitive.

Nova is going to be my back up as I have to give the deposit and FIU was not impressive. This price dif is tough to justify vs Nova but Miami it would feel worth it more I guess so one more reason to keep hoping for Miami. 🙂

My application was sent by PTCAS on 11/8. Do you know when the people who already interviewed applied?

They do the majority of their interviews on 1/6 and 1/7, with more interviews on 1/18 and 1/23. I don't know if they have them beyond that. They invited me a few days ago.

Like most students, I have been lurking on this site and a few others for months now, and I thought it was time to share. I have good days where I feel that I have good stats and stand a chance (at some schools at least) and days where I freak out a little b/c I feel like it is going to be impossible to get in 😳. Graduate GPA: 3.85 (while working full-time; my time management and study skills were greatly improved from undergrad)
Pre-req GPA: ~3.2
GRE: 1140 (640V, 500Q, 5.5W) - took it last in 2003, obviously have to re-take it with the new requirements, but I think with the proper amount of time to prepare, I'll do well.
PT Volunteer hours: Projected to complete between 120-140 within this semester
Other volunteer activities: Adopt-a-tree Miami, American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Liasion, Low-Country Lab Rescue

I'm currently taking the rest of my pre-reqs at a local community college (I am enrolled in A & P 1 w/ lab, I still need to take A & P 2 w/ lab and abnormal psych).

Schools I am going to apply to :xf::
MUSC
FIU
U. St. Augustine (FL)
Armstrong Atlantic State University
USC (Columbia, SC)

I plan on doing whatever it takes to get A's in the last three classes I have to take (that includes the class I am currently enrolled in). This will edge my GPA up slightly. I went to FIU for my Master's so I contacted my advisor to see if there is anyone there he knows that I can speak with about the program. I also plan on scheduling some meetings with the schools that do NOT require interviews in order to get more information on the program and see ways to stand out during the admissions process. Seriously though, can anyone with stats close to mine weigh in on what my chances are? I still have a long road to go, but I need to make it happen!

My application was sent by PTCAS on 11/8. Do you know when the people who already interviewed applied?
Just over viewing this thread and wanted to ask you if your were aware the application to Miami was due back in mid October? I beleive you missed the deadline if the application was sent at the date you stated.

The deadline refers to the e-submit date, and not the date that PTCAS actually sends out the applicants' materials.

Yeah as the person above said, I submitted my app to PTCAS by Miami's Oct deadline but according to PTCAS Miami had not received it until 11/8. I am thinking that this is the reason why I haven't heard anything back to date. I think I will hear something but it may be later than other people who submitted back in Aug or Sept. Therefore, I will have to suck it up and put $1,000 deposit on a credit card for my back up plan.

Blah!

The Rhode Island interview was fairly casual, with only one interview with a randomly assigned faculty member. The rest of the time they introduce you to the program and the facilities as you tour with one of the 2nd year students. In the interview they ask you the obvious questions: why do you want to be a PT? What can you bring to the classroom and your classmates? They will also ask about your volunteer/observation experiences. I was notified a few days after the interview. Good Luck.
