Congratulations Welsh Wizard. EWU is said to be a good program and low in state tuition. Are you a Washington resident ?

Thanks, it was my first choice and the only one I've heard from so I'm excited. Yep, I am a resident.

Strong application wizard! Are you going to the EWU open house or do you know much about what the program is like?

Thanks! I am going to the open house. I visited during the summer and have learned quite a bit about the program.

Oh cool I will be up there too. What is the program like? How are the facilities? What appeals to you most about it besides it being in your home state?

Like other programs, they train you to be a generalist. The professors have an "open door" policy, so you can talk to them at any time. They're focused on teaching first, ahead of research. The facilities are pretty new and nice and the cadaver lab is pretty is sweet. The program's on a campus with other health care programs.

It's the cheapest since it's instate, and they had a 100% first time pass rate on the exam. They have a good reputation, nice facilities, and students I've talked to have all loved the program. Those are some of the main reasons!

The wait is over! Let me just say that I do not have the best statistics in the world, but I was very proactive in my application process. I visited schools and met with program directors to see what they look for. I think it pays off to show that you're passionate, and to beef up other parts of your application if one part isn't that great!

No, sorry I don't have any clue. I think it's taking longer than usual since they pushed the due date of the application back to dec 3rd. I heard from another student that applied that we should be hearing back in february, however I'm not sure how true that is. Also, I've heard that it can take awhile to hear back from them. I plan on emailing them if I haven't heard anything by mid to late february though.

I know many schools are very committed to equal opportunity. However, why are some schools biased towards in-state students? Wouldn't you rather have diversity in your program opposed to a bunch of people all from Florida? My friend is an international student with outstanding stats, and UCF denied him because he is international. I personally would love to have a European in my program, I think he would have been a huge gain to the program and the profession.

State schools have the purpose to serve their state and its residents. They are set up to help residents. Also students from instate are more likely to stay instate once they graduate. I know it sucks, but I understand why these state schools do this. My state doesn't have any state school options, so I know how frustrating it can be.

Like Lucky Duck said state schools are state supported. If you keep kids instate for school then hopefully they'll stay in state to work. State funds go towards schools so if you stay in state to work then you will be paying taxes in state also.
