I applied really late in the cycle (didn't take the GRE until mid-November and my last recommendation didn't come in until December 1st), and still have some prerequisites to finish up in the spring semester. I just figured out that I wanted to go the PT route in July (previously was pursuing nursing), so I got kind of a late start on getting everything done. At the time I was working two jobs (one part-time and one full-time) and going to school, so it was tough to get the ball rolling.

So psyched that I got into UW! I have to take a trip out to Seattle now to see if UW is really as awesome as it seems. I hope it is. 🙂

have you heard back from western yet? I'm still waiting

I'm still waiting on them too. Back in October Mr. Espejo told me that my application was complete. I emailed him last week to see if there was any sort of update on my application because it would really change up my plans if I were offered an interview/accepted there. He just gave me some generic answer about how my application is pending for a final decision and I should hear within 2-4 weeks. I'm about 95% sure I didn't get in, especially being an out of state student.

I'm another non traditional student and this was no easy path- Over 1.5 years of taking classes (Over 40+ hrs). Hopefully, my stats can help someone else out there. Advisors told me I'd never be competitive enough and here I am with 4 acceptances so far and 1 large scholarship from BU. I believe what helped me was excellent references from known clinicians and a myriad of observation experiences. I'd also suggest getting academic references from areas that are known to be tough and draining like CHEM II. I did a ton of prep before each interview and asked questions about the program I was genuinely wanting to know and not just something to ask a question.

Yes, there is most certainly hope. Why my college GPA (which is almost a decade old) would have any bearing on my current capabilities is beyond me. PT schools need to recognize that career changers are on a different playing field and look at their current academic history not antiquated transcripts. I was astounded when I had an advisor tell me she could not longer speak with me on the phone because she only had time to deal with "qualified applicants". This was after she only asked me my COLLEGE GPA.

NorwichCity, I just received word from Washington University that I was waitlisted. Did they inform you of your rating when you were accepted? I was told I received a rating of 3.33 on their admissible scale, and was trying to figure out where that stacked up and what my chances of getting in are at this point were. Thanks!

Situational,

Could you retake the courses at the local CC? It should be acceptable since they were taking at two different campus/transcript system. Just a thought.

Oh yeah, I was definitely trying at all the local CCs and JCs in my area. All my post-bac courses were completed at my local CCs and JCs as well, though it was pure luck that I even got into those. I remember for anatomy, I was out of three people who got in through a lottery, with 50 people petitioning For statistics it was the same thing, except I got in with 20 people petitioning. That's why I don't know what to do at this point if I can't get into classes to retake and boost my prereq GPA. I'm just working and volunteering, though I am sure it does not bolster my application as much as GPA would.

Don't give up hope! You have great GRE scores, you are wait-listed at one school, and there are still six schools you haven't heard from! It looks like you've had lots of interesting life experiences too. I think you'll get in to several programs, but if it doesn't happen this time, perhaps you could re-take some of your pre-reqs online if you can't get in to local classes, and perhaps you could increase the number of PT observation settings (think of all the categories listed...which ones have you not observed in? can you find any opportunities locally to observe in those settings?). Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words! I am discouraged simply because it feels like it is out of my hands. It's not like I have been sitting around thinking my GPA is good enough, I am well aware of the fact that it is not. I would love to spend time to retake as many courses as I possibly could! Unfortunately, what else can I do if I can't get into the class to begin with? But I've been trying. Chemistry with C / B- / B to potentially an A / A ? Yes please.

When I originally got the email I was #80... So I'm not really counting on that :/

I got the email from long beach yesterday. I am taking my second bio class now and they wanted it done by end of fall so I'm pretty sure that's why I was denied.

When did you hear back from Western?

I received an email from Western yesterday. Not going to lie I am really bummed they were my #1...

I didn't apply to long beach because they said that you have to be finished with your prereqs by fall and I still had a few. Don't lose hope!

Are you planning on attending Washington University? My application is being reviewed on Monday, so I'm hoping for the best! How long did it take you to hear from them after your review date?

I have not fully decided yet. I accepted there because it was the first school I got into and it's a great one. But if I get into University of Iowa, I'm going there instead. I heard from them in November and I submitted everything in August. My undergrad school has a program with the school though, so that's probably why I heard back so soon. Good luck though!

Wow! Congratulations for all of your acceptances!! Do you know where you want to attend?

I'm visiting Gulf Coast on Friday to make a final decision. I only know what's been written about the school, so hopefully I can get a tour or maybe walk around the PT building. It's between Gulf Coast and UF though.
Oops double post. Is there a delete button on this thing?

I'm in the same position you are -- deciding between UF and FGCU. I visited UF last week and loved it. Could you message me after you visit FGCU to let me know what you think about FGCU?

Good Luck with your decision...it's good to have choices!!

I serve as a perfect example to those that did not do well in their early years of college and stayed in the game to improve and retook their pre-requisites. I worked my butt off in last 4 semesters for undergrad, my personal statement, getting recommendation letters, volunteer etc to compensate for my initial poor GPA. I hope this was helpful!
