SO SO SO excited that I've been accepted somewhere, and at two of my top choices nonetheless. Not sure where I'll be attending yet, but thrilled that I have a choice (and that I don't have to retake chemistry thank god.) I also hope this gives people with lower GPAs for whatever reason hope!!!

Volunteer: 180+ outpatient ortho clinic and over 2500 inpatient acute care. I have been working as a rehab tech at a hospital for the last 16 months.

Applying: University of New Mexico, Eastern Washington University, University of Washington, Midwestern U - Glendale.

This is my second time applying. Last year I applied only to UNM with the 2nd GRE scores. I was invited to an interview and was waitlisted. Ultimately, I was not accepted. However; I found out that I was #8 on the waitlist. They had accepted about 3 from the waitlist, so I was only 5 away from getting accepted. Hopefully, my improved GRE scores, increased experience, and applying to a few additional schools will increase my chances of getting in this year.

The GRE has really proven to be a challenge to me. Normally, I would consider myself a good test taker, however; the GRE seems to be a beast of its own. I finally was able to improve my scores to a somewhat decent level after taking a prep course offered at UNM. Hopefully I get in this year so that I don’t have to take that dreadful test again….

Have you thought about applying to a couple of safety schools? You have a really good GPA, but I believe those schools are really competitive, so they may not accept you for whatever reason.

Thanks for the input. I really don't know what "safety schools" would be a good option for me. I realize casting a larger net would yield better results. It is just not easy for my wife and I to relocate to an unfamiliar place. Of course, if it came down to it, we certainly would.

I do, however, feel more confident this year at UNM. Last year I was waitlisted with quite low GRE scores. My scores, while not great, are significantly improved this time around. Of course being a NM resident is helpful too...

I just pray that everything falls into place this year. I am going to be an amazing PT. 🙂

Yeah your GPA is amazing, it's just your GRE is average, and the schools that you are applying to all have really high average GPA's for admitted students (you can look it up on PTCAS), so they can be REALLY picky for which students they accept since it seems that they get a lot of quality candidates. I think you definitely have a great chance of getting in, but I would feel safer applying to a couple of schools where the average GPA was lower (~3.5ish) or a school that doesn't care about the GRE, just in case. But yeah, if you don't wanna live outside of New Mexico or Washington then nevermind.

Applying: Everywhere. I'm serious. I'm non-trad and my GPA isn't great and I know that. My top choice is Boston University.

I am really excited about the VCU acceptance and the Emory interview offers. VCU would be a great program for me, especially with the in-state tuition! However, Emory has been my top choice through this entire process and it would be a really tough choice if I were accepted at Emory. Any and all advice about choosing between the two schools would be really appreciated!

This is a great example of what I and some others have preached in a few threads about the whole "cast a wide net" strategy being unnecessary. Doing what you have to do to have a strong app and then applying strategically to 5-7 schools usually works. People like you who apply to 15+ schools usually end up with a fistful of acceptances if their stats are reasonable. I mean, there was no long term harm in applying to so many schools, its just a lot of $$$ to have to spend during the application process.

And you clearly made up for your low undergrad GPAs with post-bacc work, a killer GRE and some awesome observation hours and volunteer experiences. This is the strategy I am trying to advocate to a lot of the "what do I do about a low GPA" pre-PTs posting up threads saying they are going to "cast a wide net" to make up for their poor grades.

Congratulations on your acceptance @kcuva14! It looks like you have done a fantastic job doing what you needed to do to get into PT school.

Thanks so much for the kind words, @knj27 !

I totally agree!! I was so worried after having a few friends who applied to 5 or 6 schools and didn't get accepted to any or were only accepted to a school they didn't feel like fit them the best.

If I could go back and do it again, I would've taken a lot more time to research schools and see what each school was looking for and how my application fit best. It would've saved me a lot of essay writing and $$ in the long run instead of letting the anxiety over not getting in anywhere take over my application process.

All in all, it worked out well with only a bit more time and money spent than necessary (hindsight is 20/20 right?) but that would absolutely be advice I would pass on to others.

So excited to have been accepted to gsu! I am able to commute from home and you can't beat their cost. Though I still haven't heard from Midwestern DG or Rosalind, I will attend gsu regardless.

I totally agree!! I was so worried after having a few friends who applied to 5 or 6 schools and didn't get accepted to any or were only accepted to a school they didn't feel like fit them the best.

If I could go back and do it again, I would've taken a lot more time to research schools and see what each school was looking for and how my application fit best. It would've saved me a lot of essay writing and $$ in the long run instead of letting the anxiety over not getting in anywhere take over my application process.

All in all, it worked out well with only a bit more time and money spent than necessary (hindsight is 20/20 right?) but that would absolutely be advice I would pass on to others.

So did you get sucker punched by the $1000 deposit for MWU Glendale? I sure did...if I end up getting in somewhere else (aka somewhere cheaper) that sure was $1000 I'll never see again...gotta love MWU accepting you three months before other schools and then giving you two weeks to pay your deposit...🙄

I pretty much have no hope. I'm taking general Biology II this next semester to up my pre-req but I don't know if I should apply to more schools or just prepare for next cycle because my stats suck.

The PTCAS kept telling me to use my general courses for the prereq part even though I ended up getting As in the specialized courses so that sucked too. I just hope I get in somewhere but my Science GPA and my main GPA are nothing to write home about. Praying for a miracle and looking for other schools to apply to.

Waiting to hear from Seton Hall, LIU, and UNE. I think it helps that Touro calculates their own GPA and that my best semesters were my last two years of college (all As). I didn't think I'd get in anywhere so I'm psyched!
 
@knj27 I actually ended up putting down a deposit at nova about a week before I heard from governors state. I asked for an extension but they wouldn't give me one, as I expected. Stinks to lose 1000 but in the long run I'll save a ton!

Thanks! I didn't apply for anything, they just told me they're giving me them. Really happy and grateful for it!

Apparently I didn't need to apply to so many schools! I was worried about my low pre-req GPA and unsure where I would fall in a lot of school's rankings but it seemed to all work out!

I am really excited about the VCU acceptance and the Emory interview offers. VCU would be a great program for me, especially with the in-state tuition! However, Emory has been my top choice through this entire process and it would be a really tough choice if I were accepted at Emory. Any and all advice about choosing between the two schools would be really appreciated!

Hi! Thank you I'm really excited 🙂 They sent me an email on December 12th just notifying me of the acceptance and then I got the full admissions packet in the mail yesterday.
