GPA's, GRE's, XTRA's, ACCEPTANCES

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Have you tried calling the schools to see why you were waitlisted? It seems like you are waitlisted at each school you interviewed at (as opposed to being flat out rejected) so they are interested in you. It might be your GRE scores, your writing section is a bit low. Do you still have Pre-req courses you have to take that can bring up your pre-req average?

I only have physics to take, which can possibly bring it up my grade. (but we all know how physics can be) Also I just got my fall grades back and got all A's and A-'s so my GPA is now a 3.541. An I did not call but I will for the ones I can. Some emailed saying not to because they won't tell you.

Congratulations, this is a huge accomplishment! I also applied to Emory. Do you think if other applicants have not heard by now, they are being denied?

I am sure you will do great!!

thank you so much!! and I have no idea. I know for a fact that after the interviews, they will notify people if they're accepted or not by the end of march. so maybe that means they will be giving more interviews in February or something! Best of luck to you 🙂

I also got the email about the Early Admission and was admitted without an interview! Did you apply to any other Michigan schools? I got in at Wayne State, Central Michigan, Oakland U, and Grand Valley so now I have to start making a decision...
No, CMU was the only one in Michigan that I applied to. I'm from Indiana so I applied to schools relatively close to home. CMU is only 4 hours so that's not too bad. Will you be attending the open house next month?

University: College of Charleston - still in my undergrad
Major: Exercise Science
Overall GPA: 3.502 (not with fall 2015 grades)
Pre-Req GPA: 3.48
GRE: 150 V, 148 Q, 3.4 W

Extra-Curric: College softball player, Coach, Moove, Groove & Get Active!, Volunteered at various camps, Running with the Hounds, Miracle League, Race for the Cure, Ronald McDonald House, Heart Walk, Veterans Home, CPR / First-Aid / AED Certified

Observation Hours: 154 Hours Total. 132 hours in Outpatient Care with emphasis on geriatrics, pediatrics, women's health, and sport injuries. 20 hours in Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital with emphasis on mostly geriatrics and mostly stroke patients.

Applied: 20 Schools (I know...alot) - Rutgers North, Rutgers South, Shenandoah, Emory, Duke, Dominican College of Blauvelt, MCPHS, MGH Institute, Nazareth, U of Scranton, Rosalind Franklin, Stockton, St. Francis, Thomas Jefferson U, NOVA Ft. Lauderdale, UIC, UNE, USF, Wingate, MUSC

Interviews: UNE, Shenandoah, Rutgers North, Rutgers South, Dominican, MCPHS

Acceptances: N/A

Rejections: UIC, Nova

Wait list: UNE, Shenandoah, Rutgers North (Deferred to January Decision), Dominican

Anyone have any input for me about being wait listed?
How many pre req courses were in progress this fall? If you were taking a lot, realize the schools couldn't consider any of those courses. They have to look at you as a complete candidate at the time of your application/interview. Possibly, other candidates had more courses finished.

How do you feel interviews went? I'm inclined to say your scores and hours are just fine since you got interviews at so many places....so I would examine your essays and interviewing for reasons you didn't make the final cut. (but refer to first idea....they didn't flat out reject you so I wonder if they were waiting on falls grades)

Hey thanks for the response but none of the classes I took in the fall were pre-reqs and i tried to do different things at each interview. I'm definitely going to keep working on it!

When did you hear back from Wayne State and Oakland U? I still haven't heard anything other than the fact that my application was received and they will let me know. Thanks!

Has anyone else heard back from Regis? I'm apparently on the wait-list for an interview, which was odd to me, but I was wondering if anyone else got this response here? They said they were impressed with my application (not enough to give me an interview, obviously) but they said they had 1,400 applications this cycle and that they'd notify me immediately when an interview spot became available, if any.

I also got the email about the Early Admission and was admitted without an interview! Did you apply to any other Michigan schools? I got in at Wayne State, Central Michigan, Oakland U, and Grand Valley so now I have to start making a decision...

I got into GV and CMU as well! Go to GV!!

I had an interview at Wayne State at the beginning of November and I just heard back from Oakland on Saturday! (December 19th)! Which is your top choice?

Oh, ok. I'm a Michigan resident and I only applied to in-state schools. But as of right now I do not plan on attending the open house. I applied for the Houghton site (I'm currently an MTU student) so seeing the Mt. Pleasant site probably wouldn't help me with my decision all that much.

I got into GV and CMU as well! Go to GV!!

Awesome! Great job! Are you planning on attending GVSU? I am still weighing the pros and cons of CMU, GVSU, and Oakland so any insight you have would be great!

Not really sure which one of those would have been my top choice, probably Wayne State. I was more trying to figure out why I hadn't heard back from either of those schools yet. Although, I got accepted at UIC and will likely be going there. Congrats on your acceptances!

Apparently I did not meet the minimum requirements for USF and could not be offered a spot. I believe it was because I did not complete the lifespan psych. prereq to date. But that's okay. We should all be very proud of our accomplishments and sacrifices that were made in order for us to make it this far, regardless of our applicant status! :claps::claps:

CMU starts immediately after winter semester which is a con for me.

Oakland is 4 months longer. and more expensive.

I always hear great things about GV. GV also has clinical rotations throughout the entire program and not just during year 3.

Congrats on the interviews! I got an invite email from Iowa on 12/4 and will be interviewing there on 1/22. And I got an interview invite from Colorado as well!

It has been quite informative getting to see all the posts on here! Congrats to everyone who has gotten in and best of luck to everyone applying/interviewing!

PT school has been my dream for many years now, and I was looking for some feedback on my application status/the likelihood of getting into the following various programs, as I am just starting the process and am a bit overwhelmed. Here are some of my stats below...

University: UW
Major: Kinesiology
Overall GPA: 3.432 (My gpa is currently a weak spot for me...I honestly think it's because when you get an A- it is the same as an A/B, which is calculated as a 3.5 at my University. also still waiting on grades from this semester and have at least one semester left)
Pre-Req GPA: (any recommendations for online calculators/instructions on which courses to include?)
GRE: 160 verbal 154 quantitative 4.5 writing

-Kinesiology academic scholarship recipient, 2 years (every since I have gotten accepted into the program)
-dean's list

Extra-Curric:
-Work at the University Hospital, as a student aide in the department Department of Ortho/Rehab
-Worked in the University's Division Recreational Sports
-Worked in a Warm Water Exercise Program for adults with cognitive and physical disabilities
-worked in a bakery

Volunteer:
-Retirement Home Physical Therapy Unit 50 hours
-Illinois Bone and Joint physical therapy volunteer 70 hours
-volunteered in a joint replacement physical therapy program at a hospital 50 hours
-multiple prehealth/pre physical therapy/kinesiology club members
-pre-physical therapy peer mentor program
-Hippotherapy Volunteer for children with disabilities
-Adaptive Fitness Volunteer
-Science festival, blood drive, benefit run volunteers
-Young Athletes Special Olympics Volunteer

Hoping to apply to: UW-Madison, UW Lacrosse, UW-Milwaukee, UIC, Northwestern, Rosalind Franklin, Indiana, Mayo, etc.

Acceptances: N/A
Rejections: N/A

Any recommendations to increase my chances? should I retake the GRE to boost my score? Any recommendations for good PT programs in the Midwest that you liked when you visited??

Your GRE scores are solid. I wouldn't retake it. Your GPA needs to be higher. I would retake any classes you might have gotten a C or even a B in to boost up that GPA. Make sure your essay and your letters of recommendation are strong.

I recommend visiting all of the schools you plan on applying to so that you can form relationships with the people who will be in charge of decision making. I just got accepted into UIC and I can honestly say that I do not know if I would have been accepted if I hadn't been in there frequently observing classes, talking to the admissions people, inquiring about their PhD program, etc., etc. I made sure they knew my name when it came up during the admissions meeting. I made sure they knew my stats too. The more you put yourself out there to these programs, the more they will remember you when your file hits the table.

It seems like you are on the right track though. So, boost that GPA, form relationships and you should be golden. Good luck!

You look to be in great shape! Don't worry about the GRE -- your score is fantastic. It looks like you have a lot of great experiences as well. Also, keep in mind that PTCAS will calculate GPA on your application, and I'll bet that will benefit you!

I was recently rejected from UW-Madison, so you can look at my stats to see where you might need to improve. I would say your GPA and make sure your essay and letters of recommendation are strong. You already have a better start to applying there as you are in-state/in-region whereas I had a handicap being from Georgia. Best of luck to you in the future!

Any recommendations to increase my chances? should I retake the GRE to boost my score? Any recommendations for good PT programs in the Midwest that you liked when you visited??
Hey there! Your overall GPA might be a *tad* bit low, but I still think you have a VERY STRONG opportunity of getting into PT school. I was wait listed at Indiana University and University of Wisconsin-Madison (which truly is my dream school), but was accepted to Ohio University in Athens. That would be a strong school I would add to your list. Have you also considered University of Indianapolis? Sometimes, private schools accept more out-of-state students. Just something to consider. You could also consider some schools in St. Louis - I believe there is a school is Missouri that offers in-state tuition (something I wish I knew before applying).

Are you applying this cycle? Do you know how often University of Wisconsin has to take people off their waitlist? Last year, their website detailed that they offered close to 60 acceptances, but have 40 in their application cycle. Is there anything you know about UW-Madison you could share?

Thank you!

P.S. Your GRE is VERY Solid! Also, remember that it does *not* all boil down to scores. Your experience is very awesome - not everyone has experience in that many locations. I believe that Emory places more emphasis on those that have significant experience in shadowing PT'S. This may be a school you want to look at, if you also are considering putting in more volunteer and observation hours. University of Miami (in FL) offered me an interview, which was very humbling, because my GRE scores are not stellar...and the gentleman who interviewed me quite frankly told me that my essays were great. Something to consider!

Good luck!

UPDATE: ACCEPTANCE! :biglove:

Like others have mentioned, my suggestion would be to work on your GPA. Your GRE is fine, I wouldn't bother retaking that. On your application, really focus on your essays. Madison and the other UW schools do not do interviews so they tend to look at the essays instead to get an idea of you as an applicant. I was just accepted to Madison, however I was rejected at La Crosse. They heavily favor students that went to their school and this year they had really high averages for accepted applicants, so keep that in mind. I also interviewed and was accepted at Mayo, they like to evaluate your application as a whole, not just on scores/GPA and the interview was a big part of it. Be sure that whatever you write about in your essays or talk about in interviews, you can clearly draw on experiences (which you seem to have) and convince them that you truly do want to be a PT. Good luck!

So I've always looked over this thread to see the different stats and which schools everyone has heard from so far and have finally decided to post my stats:

University: Truman State University
Major: Exercise Science
Minors: Spanish, Psychology, Biology
Overall GPA: 3.47
Pre-req GPA: 3.24
GRE: V-155, Q-150, AW-4.5

Extra Curriculars: Anatomy TA for 1.5 years, involved in Exercise Science Research for 1 year, Physical Therapy Technician at an outpatient orthopedic clinic for almost 1 year, Pre-PT/OT Club President for 1 year, active member in a service sorority for 2.5 years (was the fundraising chair for the local YMCA)

Shadowing: countless work hours for my tech job at outpatient orthopedic, 20 hospital hours, 14 SNF hours, and 11 school pediatric hours

Applied: Regis University, University of Iowa, Des Moines University, University of Nebraska Medical Center, AT Still University, Mercer University, Elon University, Rockhurst University, East Tennessee State University

Interviews: Rockhurst University, Mercer University
Waitlists for Interviews: UNMC, Regis University (they said they've had over 1,400 applicants this cycle), Elon University
Waitlists for Programs: Rockhurst

Rejections: NONE
Acceptances: NONE

--Bummed about Rockhurst but they weren't my first choice, getting ready for my interview at Mercer, but curious if anyone has heard from DMU or University of Iowa? All I've heard from them is when they first received my application and nothing since. Also, haven't had any outright rejections from anyone which is positive, but tired of seeing the word "waitlist" in all my emails +pissed+. Also AT Still said I probably won't be hearing from them until the new year, but that all the interview spots are currently filled --

Got the same response from them..hopeful for an opportunity to interview there still though

Hey, "waitlist" is better than a rejection. Trust me. 6 applications: 2 rejections and Regis' interview waitlist. Just stay positive.

Congrats and hopefully you can make it down to Iowa for the interview! I'm an undergrad at Iowa and interviewing on the 15th. If you have any questions about the university or the Iowa City area while you are deciding whether to accept the interview, I'd be glad to help!
Sounds great, I appreciate the help! I may have to PM you after he 15th! Looking forward to Iowa!

Why did you get a rejection for western u? Did you apply late?
I was cutting it close by submitting my application a day or two before their deadline. But no, that is not why I was rejected. My organic and biochemistry sequence will not satisfy their gen chem prereq.

That makes sense. I took biochemistry and organic and they wouldn't count it for me either. My gen chem expired

I'm posting this on here, because while I'm excited that I got into a school, I also could tell from the interview that Tech would not be a good fit, and I'm a bit worried of not getting into any other schools. While I am from Texas, I have family that lives in New Hampshire, and it would be a dream come true to go to Franklin Pierce, but I won't hear from them until February. I'm also worried that I haven't heard from Wingate given that they have rolling admissions. That school is also one of my top choices.
Did you get into TJU?
