This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also applied and got an interview!

When did you submit and how long did it take for you to get an interview notification! I just submitted mine yesterday. I am kinda nervous about the GRE scores. Do they do holistic review?

HELP
I received two interviews on back to back days on opposite sides of the country and they are my top two choices. Is it extremely frowned upon to email one and tell them my problem and see if its possible to come ANY other day?? I am so confused on what to do and would appreciate any insight!!

Congrats on the interviews! I would definitely reach out to the one that is further and ask them if there is a video interview option or an alternative day option. Tell them that you have a prior commitment and unfortunately can’t change it but are still very interested in their program.

Thanks so much! They were able to reschedule me for a later date.

I had hoped to apply to Rush in Chicago but my GRE is too low, does anyone know if they would consider under the 302 combined v & q score?
Also, has anyone interviewed at creighton or breanu that could send me what to expect or possible questions?? I'm super nervous!!
I know my gpa & gre aren't super high so i'm going into this whole process very nervous.. trying to stay positive!!
Appreciate any help anyone can give! Thanks & good luck everyone! :)

Have you heard from Creighton yet?!

Yeah I did! I was placed on the alternate list...so better than rejected i guess? i'm disappointed but I recently got interview invites for 2 other schools that i'm really interested in and those aren't until November. i'm trying to stay positive!!

The only way to make your application more competitive is to do well on your GRE when you take it. Work on your interview skills. Do mock interviews at school or with friends and family. There’s plenty of threads with interview questions from previous cycles. Have people come up with the most random questions they can think of. You just need to practice owning your interview, bc that’s when you have an opportunity to set yourself apart from others. This is your opportunity to show you are more than just statistics on paper. Know why you want to do OT and what you bring to their program. Be confident, and show that you would be an asset! Hope that helps.

Thank you! I appreciate it. I think the whole process is just getting me really nervous.

I'm looking for some advice about sending out my GRE scores. I retook the GRE to improve my math score but the second time my math score only went up by 2 points and my writing went down from 4.0 (57th percentile) to 3.5 (30th percentile) :( Do you think it's worth it to submit both GRE scores just to show the slightly higher math score even though my writing percentile was so low? thanks!

None of the schools I'm applying to specifically mention "super scoring" on their websites. I think I might email each school's admissions to see if super scoring is accepted. Thanks!

I would send them, but check in to see which programs you plan on applying to superscore! Depending on the program, even if they don't superscore, the committee will see all of the previous and recent scores you choose to submit to them.

If anyone is applying to or attending these schools, I would greatly appreciate your feedback! I decided on OT a little later in my college career and feel like I may not have as many observation hours as others. I also have not completed all of my prereqs, but as a biology major and psych minor I have strong foundations in science and research; I hope schools will take this into consideration!
Hi ! I applied to Ohio State and Uni of Pitt! I haven't heard anything back yet. How about you?

Current student at Brenau Gainesville. Let me know if you have any questions!!
I’m interviewing in November with Brenau. Could you please provide feedback on the type of interview questions that will be asked? Could you provide insight into the ideal candidate they are searching for? Thank you

Hello! I heard back in a few weeks from them. I submitted mid September. My GRE scores were not great (check out my initial post of my statistics for more details). I'm from pittsburgh and have met many graduates and also visited there, it seems like a great program with great staff and good opportunities. Seemingly, they definitely do a holistic review being I have two friends that did not receive an interview years back who had much greater grades and test scores than I do.

**SOS**
Hey y'all here are my stats. I wasn't going to post them but I got rejected from TWU today and now I am really worried. I thought I had good stats so I am confused on what's lacking! PLEASE HELP!!!
The only thing I can think of was my GRE scores and that my app was verified after TWU's deadline but I did call and ask and they said they would still look at my app. So I don't know. Please be honest!

University: University of Texas at Austin
Major: Applied Movement Science
Overall GPA: 3.8
Pre-Req GPA: 4.0
GRE: 141 quant, 149 verbal, 4 W -- I know these scores are below average!! :(

Extra-Currie:
member of multiple organizations
served as leader and chairs to 3 separate orgs
lots of outside volunteering with community!!!
probably around 180 hours

Volunteer:
80 Adult Inpatient
26 Adult Outpatient
18 Pediatric Outpatient

Total: 124 hours

LOR: 2 OT, 2 professors

I felt like I did good on my personal essay? I had people review it and went to the writing center to get help.

Applied: TWU, UTMB, Tech, St. Augustine, and ACU

Acceptances:

Rejections: TWU

I think that your stats look great with maybe the exception of your GRE scores. Keep in mind that only 6-15% of applicants get accepted depending on the school...so even well qualified candidates don’t always make the cut for every school. You still have several applications pending, so don’t freak out yet. If you’re feeling panicked, I’d say go ahead and start studying for the GRE and plan to retake it...and then apply to schools with later deadlines (or schools that don’t require it). But bottom line, don’t freak out yet! You look really competitive!

I second that. I was accepted from a top school and denied from a new lower ranked program. So it really depends. I think your stats are good, don't lose hope!

Rejections: N/A

I was VERY nervous considering I have been out of school for over 10 years (except for prerequisites) and my stats are less than stellar, but I think being given the opportunity to interview and really show my dedication and passion to education and OT really helped me, at least with my first acceptances. I hope this gives anyone with average stats some hope. Good luck everyone!

I just received interview invitations to Midwestern University (Downers Grove) and Indiana Wesleyan (Fort Wayne) at the end of November. Anybody got any tips or tricks on how to ace my first interviews? I appreciate any suggestions! Thank you all.

Hey everyone,

Im new here and I am super nervous about this upcoming cycle.
University of Connecticut
Major: Allied Health Sciences
Minor: Psychology
cGPA: 3.41
pGPA: ~3.5 (varies based on schools)
GRE: 153v 150q and 4.0W

Extra-c:
Rugby Team (Fundraising chair and team member), Premier Science Fraternity (Historian and Allied Health Academic Mentor), studied abroad, volunteered at Royal Hospital Donneybrook while abroad as a patient companion

Jobs;
Rowing Coach (2017- present), Patient Care Assistant (2017-2018; patient died :( ), Miss Merry Mac's Educational Daycare (Sept. to present), Subway (ugh i know, 2017- present), Camp Counselor every summer from 2016 to 2019

Observation Hours: 16 in peds, and 35 in hand therapy

Appling to Brenau, Hofstra, St. Augustine, Salem State, Sacred Heart, Salus, FGCU, University New Hampshire, Bay Path, and University of Sciences.

I know that my statistics are super average, and I am also nervous because when I transferred, I only took anatomy and not the physiology semester and I am now presently taking A&P 1 and gonna take the second portion next semester. Im afraid that because those classes are not completed that I am gonna be far behind everyone else. Also I am just now submitting my applications for verification so I am also nervous that I am too late because I see a lot of people who are interviewing already.

Any advice/criticism/words of encouragement welcome

Rush (2/17/20)- my guess is that I just didn't stand out much with the group interview
UIC (3/11/20)- seemed like my GRE scores were the reason

Rejections:
U of Washington (3/3/20)- they take mostly in-state students and I am from Iowa, didn't realize this until after I had applied

Interviews:
Rush (12/16/20)- did a group interview (I was not a fan)
Boston (2/21/20)- one on one interviews (really nice system)

I don't believe any of the other schools I applied to did interviews.

how did you study for the GRE?
I bought two GRE practice books and went through all the practice problems and practice tests. If I did not get one right, I would go over it until I understood it.
I also made sure that I understood all the basic geometry and algebra problems since those make up a lot of the math section.

I just finished all of my applications and was wondering if anyone has heard anything about their own apps to any of these schools:
Colorado State, U of Washington, Boston Uni, Temple Uni, UIC at Chicago, Rush

Overall GPA: 3.9
Pre-Req GPA: 4.0

Volunteer: service-learning at a special ed. school in Cusco, Peru, exercise instructor of a fall-prevention class for seniors, Dance marathon, humane society, local food-bank program

We have similar stats and I applied to a few of the same schools (Rush, UIC, Colorado). I haven't heard anything back from any of those places, but I know a few people have heard back from Rush about interviews in the last couple of weeks. When did you apply?

I have interviews at Boston and Rush, but have not yet heard back from UIC. I will keep you updated on the interview process! I applied very early (September), so I was eligible for the first round of interviews, but I believe most schools have multiple rounds!

I’ve been waitlisted to Temple as of today

Do you get emails from prospective schools on when they send acceptance emails out? Just finished the interview process with TWU over the weekend and wanted to know everyone else’s experiences on the matter. So I can have a general date. I figured before Christmas sometime, since we start in the summer.

I interviewed at TWU Houston last weekend and was told that they send out acceptances in January some time! I've heard other schools like Brenau and UF are supposed to send theirs out in February.

Would you guys recommend I retake the GRE? I’m not sure if it’s worth but also not sure if it’s hindering my app too much. Thanks!!
Have you heard anything back from Stanbridge yet?
