I have a quick question. I had a fellow student come up to me the other day and talk about grades. He said he's been to four colleges (cc, 2 transfers, and now doing prereqs at my institution) and this is the only college he's ever been to where people openly talk about grades. Is this the case at most places? It doesn't matter if you get a 96 or a 55 on a test but 99% of people at my school will openly say the scores they got and move on with their day. When I go to school in the Fall I don't want to be "that guy" that's like "How did you do?" and it be an offensive question haha.

We ask each other how we did, but when we do we expect to hear "good", "bad", "okay".

No one talks about grades here, because exams kick everyone's asses, so even though a 60 might result in a B, it's such an ugly number for such nerdy students.

I personally never ask how people did. It's not my business, not my problem, and not worth my time.

However, when I am asked, I always respond with "I did fine" or "I did well". This is sufficient for them.

If they need help, I'd be more than glad to help in any way I can. If I need help, I will always ask for it. Not everyone is on their A-game for every exam, many people may flat out lie, or others may make you feel terrible. This is why I avoid comparing myself.

My scores get me through school, nobody else's.

if i feel like asking i'll ask idc about being considered a gunner when i'm not because it's just school, not a popularity contest. from my experience people ask a lot and most people's responses are skewed/indirect and a lot of premeds think a B is terrible and they'll say terrible or failing. that stuff annoys me because it's not even remotely accurate and they've probably never been anywhere nearing failing a class if they consider that a failure.

me: how did you do on the test?
premed: terrible I got an A-
me: no comment

If someone asks you, just say one of three things, "bombed it," "okay," or "pretty well." It's never a good idea to share your grades with people. Once in my junior year someone somehow found out my gpa and told a few people. I wasn't pre-med at the time, but a good friend of mine who was pre-med (and struggling) found out and got really jealous. We ended up not being friends by the end of the year. After that I always made it a point to make people think I was getting a mix of As and Bs. Respectable, but nothing to get too jealous over. It just made everything easier.

If asked, I'd tell my actual grades on assignments to lab partners and study partners.

Everyone else got "pretty good/okay/not so good."
