I know that getting into dental school is very difficult. My deal is I graduated college with a BS in an allied health field....but like many did not take all of the science prereqs for dental school. My undergrad GPA was a 3.5 but I am in a chem class now and I find it pretty difficult. How important is science GPA....I mean if I pulled a 3.0 in my science prereqs will that cut it...I am thinking not. I do have 4 years of work exp as well (for what it is worth)..thanks for the advice.

Sure you may get in: depending on where you apply, the year (ie who you're up against), where your degree and science classes are taken, etc. I know that sgpa would've gotten students from my undergrad (about 85% with a 3.0-3.2 sgpa) into dental school the year I applied (DDS class of 2006). Maybe not into the 'top' programs, but if you want to be a dentist then getting in is the most important thing, right? And as an admissions committee member, I can tell you that non-academic criteria do hold some water where I'm at (and I imagine the same can be said for any dental school that isn't a number-chasing program).

Check out this link that somewhat relates. This person is applying with just under a 3.0 science, and here are some people's thoughts about it.
