So here's the situation:

I'm currently a 3rd year UG, in my school 100-400 classes are UG credit and 500-600 are Graduate credit.
I got into a 500 level graduate class and really want to take it BUT I would have to pay graduate tuition which is almost twice as much. However, I can avoid the graduate rates if I take that SAME class but on my transcript it's designated a 400 level course so that it's UG credit.
Here's the thing, while I'm taking the class for intrinsic purposes, I also want Med Schools to see I can handle a graduate level course. So will its importance be diminished by going the 400 level course rather than paying extra and having it explicitly list it as a graduate course? Or will Med Schools really not give a ****?

inb4 gunner much?

I heard that Graduate Classes taken while you're still matriculated as an undergraduate will count into your undergraduate GPA when you're doing your AMCAS. Can anyone confirm it?

Also, i am a rising junior in a fast track MBA program. I am taking a couple MBA classes next year along with my undergraduate classes.

Will the MBA classes count in my undergraduate GPA or will it count as graduate GPA (even thought im still an undergraduate (matriculated undergrad status)?

If you take it as a 500 level then it will count as a graduate class and I don't think it will be counted in your undergrad GPA by AMCAS...

This is just what I've always been told.

As a graduate student, there is rarely much of a difference between the undergrads and grads in these piggy back classes. Just do whatever is cheapest, schools aren't going to be wowed by your 500 level classwork...they know that a lot of those classes are combined with grad students

do not take graduate coursework unless you plan on going to grad school! its a waste of time and energy and could kill your gpa. I learned the hard way, dont do it my way.

They only care about what is on the paper period.

If it shows up on your transcript as a 500 level course and is a graduate course, then it will be counted as a graduate course. If it is 400 level, then it is UG. I would dodge that 500 level bullet and take it as an undergrad. This way the adcoms will see it as a 400 level and won't think "graduate level class => grade inflation."

As a soon-to-be PhD turned premed, I actually think it's more advantageous to take the undergrad level. I should also tell you that I'm an adviser for undergrad students at a top tier school.

Here's why: grad courses are curved way too much. It's nearly impossible to get below a B- in graduate school, because below that is considered (literally) a fail at most institutions. Graduate students are basically hired labor, and so no one wants them to have to retake classes.

Most committees should know this.
