Your not going to get away with that nor will anyone have any advice for you.

Seconded. Everyone is nervous/has a hard time with the GRE. It's deplorable that you would consider cheating to get into vet school. What does that say about how you would act once you got in?

I'm going to take this post as a light hearted jokey comment... and the only way to get around the GRE is to not take it at all and go to a school that doesn't require it... but then that might be more trouble then its worth 😛

Are there even schools that don't require the GRE?

My first thought was that maybe some of the international schools didn't, but all the ones I did a quick Google search on do require it.

Piggton, the GRE isn't that bad. Most of us here have taken it and lived to tell the tale. 😉 If you have major test-taking anxiety, you can sometimes make arrangements with the testing center to help with that (be in a quiet room by yourself instead of a full computer lab, for example). But that does vary by testing center, of course.

If you're more concerned with what your score will be, start taking prep classes, studying GRE books, and taking practice tests NOW. The more you study real GRE problems, vocabulary, and essays, and the more practice tests you take, the better your score will be. And it will probably do a lot to decrease your anxiety, because you'll know what to expect.

Also, if you don't already know, at the end of vet school in North America, you get to take another long and difficult standardized exam -- the NAVLE. And there's no way to get around that if you want to be a legally practicing vet in the States!

Oh also, when you take the GRE, they have cameras watching your every move, you have to leave a valid ID with them, and you sign some very long statement, in cursive! Gah! The horror! Mine looked like chicken scratch, and I took it twice! But yes, they find out if you cheat. And even the SAT where it's easier to have someone take it for you, they'll find out (there was a recent article on this).

Honestly it's not that bad if you prepare for it.

are you going to have someone else take the NAVLE for you too? What about your tests in vet school? What about see your patients for you when you're a vet?

I don't think this was started as a troll thread (and if it was, bravo. Score 9.5/10 b/c you got tons of bites. Russian judge still gave it a 7 though) but you can probably understand why your first post struck a nerve.

Your GRE score isn't a catchall for your application, but it is a good way to show admissions people your potential as a test taker (and there are many to take in vet school), especially on the NAVLE. I don't know how far away your GRE is, but consider taking steps to prepare early such as getting a list of the top 250 words that commonly appear and learning them; this will make reading passages on the verbal section easier as well as some of the other question types more manageable. Also you can memorize a number of strategies for the math section to do well. Case in point: a perfect math score only places you in the mid-90s percentile wise.

I plan on doing this. You see, I had my wife go to undergrad for me in biomedical science, take my GRE, then apply to vet schools for me. Once she takes my NAVLE, she will see patients for me. It all wraps up in a nice clean bow, and now I have the time to do a 2nd job!

why in the world are some of you trying to talk this person into bucking up and taking the actual GRE??? IF this is a person truly wants to face the GRE - I would NEVER EVER want them as a colleague and in this profession! Poor moral standard. YUCK. :barf:

Ha. I have no retort to that. I just said it would be pretty difficult to try to cheat on it. Probably easier to take the damn thing.

I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods.

Some of us are trying to salvage some utility from an otherwise lulz inducing thread. Then again, maybe this thread's only purpose is to serve as a warning not to solicit help cheating from a community you barely know 🙄

Pretty sure if you put as much effort into studying as you seem to be putting in to find ways around the GRE or to cheat then you might actually do well...On second thought, keep putting effort into cheating and fail the GRE because I'd hate to have to be in the same profession as you

for clarification - I was calling the OP a person of poor moral standard - not those who responded to the thread.

There are schools you could apply to that don't require any standardized tests.

1. University of Calgary (Canadians only)
2. Western College of Veterinary Medicine (Canadians only)
3. University of Prince Edward Island (AVC)
4. Maybe the University of Montreal, but I can't navigate their French website 😉 (Canadians only)

My thoughts are that everyone else applying to schools in N. America had to suck it up and take it, you can too. If you're not willing to jump through that hoop to get in, then you aren't very committed to the career.

I wonder how much you would have to pay someone to take the GRE for you. I also wonder why Canada is so exclusive.

Even better: Imagine how much you'd have to pay someone to take it for you AND get a decent score on it. I'm sure there are hundreds of people who would take it for you...but do you really want to the score of a homeless, hungry, one eyed crackhead who never finished middle school and is in withdrawal and just wants some cash for the next fix to be the score that vet schools see?

I might do better! :laugh::meanie:

I dunno, if you offered to pay off all my undergraduate debt, I'd consider donning a fake mustache and acing the test for him/her 🙂

Like Lab Rat pointed out, the GRE is required for AVC.

For anyone who is interested, no standardized test is required for the University of Montreal. You do need to prove a high level of fluency in French which may require taking a language test.

I have no problem sacrificing my time, social life and financial well being to get into vet school, but learning to speak Narnian is simply a bridge too far.

Oh come on, it's not that difficult. It only took me 5 years of French Immersion in school to reach a moderate fluency level.

Gaining Canadian citizenship and learning a new language should only take something like 5-8 years. Way easier than writing the GRE, right? 🙄

I would say :lock: but this is kind of entertaining.

AVC requires GRE.

Ok, sorry for the misinformation! I just browsed their website quickly 🙂

It's kinda weird how AVC has the GRE, OVC has the MCAT, UCVM and WCVM don't have anything and again, not sure about Montreal. Just a little inconsistent...🙄

OVC
U Sydney
U Murdoch
U Melbourne

don't require the GRE.

Australians say "Eh" too, except its more like "aaiiiyyy?" and they also so say "hey?", which I have unfortunately picked up 🙁

And also, my advice is to forget about learning french because quebecers will just speak english to you anyways if you are obviously anglophone ... lol.

lostbunny, I just realized you're in Australia.

Can you please just come talk to me? I love you guys' accents. Although, you said you've picked it up...that mean you're not from Australia originally?

I'm sorry- no I don't have a sexy Australian accent 🙁 Though I can fake one and fool non-Australians/Kiwis... but when I fake Aussie here I just sound like a Brit 🙁

I'm actually from Canada but then worked/traveled/moved here to Oz. 😀 lovvvee itttt.

Do you miss Aslan and Mr. Tumnus, being so far from home?
