I have a 480 verbal, 540 quantitative, and a 3.0 writing (yea i meant to do better in that but i didnt have time to study much on it before i took the test.

anyway.. thoughts on my chances to get in to schools? I have great recs, GPA is stronger this year (i am a re-applicant), probably going to be around a 3.5 pre req by academic update period. 600+ observation hours in three settings altogether so far... Should i avoid schools that have a minimum 4.0 for GRE writing score or would they maybe overlook it with my other stats? I would greatly appreciate any feedback, i submit my application by the 15th of august... Thank you

It would probably mostly depend on how strong the rest of your application is. You'll want to have a pretty stellar overall and prerequisite GPA. I'm not sure how schools do their cut-offs for the GRE, but if a school says they want a 4 AW, they may cut anyone out that does not have that. If a school is getting 800 applications to fill 80 seats, they have to be pretty selective. There are a number of schools that don't even require the GRE, so maybe look through the lists and find those.

You have a lot of observation hours, so maybe look at doing some other community outreach type of things. Try hooking up with the YMCA or something to volunteer in a setting where you'll actually be working with people hands-on.

I also submit by the 15th for the early decision, so good luck to you!

if the school requires a minimum, then you need to have that minimum to be considered in most cases.
i wouldn't waste the money applying to a school that requires something you don't have.

if there are one or two you were really interested in, you could email them and see if it's *required* or really only *recommended* but spots are very competitive like the above person said, so they have to stick to guidelines to cut down the applicants..
