What kind of watches do you guys own? I was thinking about getting one of these.

Thoughts? Any other ones out there that you guys like?

Hello,

In my opinion, the watch you want to buy is one of the most beautiful watches in existence.

This topic has been discussed several times in these forums. Look at the following links (there are more than these, if you care to search):

The thing to remember is that if you get one of those expensive watches, every time you send it to clean and oil, they will charge you 500-600 dollars at the very least.

Also important is to remember that, if you really want it to be waterproof, periodically, and every time it is opened, whether for battery change, cleaning, oiling or repairing, they have to change all the O-rings, seals, and other stuff, and test it for you.

Another thing to remember is that, if your watch is one of those rare specimens that require service, those companies don't know how to deal with customers, and it will take a long time before they actually fix it and send it back to you.

Look at the other threads of this forum. Just search "watches."

Greetings

The Omega Speedmaster Professional is a nice one. I've always liked it. It's the same exact watch that Apollo astronauts wore on their missions to the moon.

There is one problem, though: it uses a manual-winding movement. That means you'll have to wind it every day (or every other day, depending on the power-reserve in the spring). And unfortunately, Omega doesn't make any Speedmasters identical to it in appearance that use automatic-winding movements.

I myself wear a Rolex Sea-Dweller. It looks like a Submariner but doesn't have the Cyclops lens to magnify the date window (which is a nice feature, in my opinion). Rolex stopped making the Sea-Dweller recently, but you might still be able to find a Rolex dealer that has one in stock.

The Sea-Dweller was replaced with the Sea-Dweller Deepsea. The Sea-Dweller is water resistant to 4,000 feet, whereas the Deepsea is resistant to 12,800 feet. I think your head implodes like a light-bulb somewhere between those depths.

Scary to wear everyday, but thus far rock solid build. Best watch I have owned.

Beautiful watch that I hope some day I can afford. Classy and sporty at the same time.

I believe the Speedmaster Co-Axial has an automatic movement and also has the date.
http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/speedmaster/co-axial-chronometer

It's close, but still different.

The Speedmaster Co-Axial is a bit larger -- 44.25mm as opposed to 42mm for the original Speedmaster. You'd be surprised, an extra 2mm width makes for a substantially larger watch.

Also, it has that date window at 6 o'clock...which I don't particularly like. I like date windows at the 3 o'clock position, as do most watch owners it seems.

I've worn a stainless tank francaise for years and I have to agree that cartier makes a solid watch. The new ballon bleu line looks awesome...

I own this one:

CH2564_main

and this one:

CH2557_main

Cost is somewhere around $200 for both of them. I don't ever see myself buying a watch for much more than 1k. I get sick of the same watch after about 2 years. By then, they are usually pretty torn up anyways and I have a billion other toys on the wish list. :d

I do appreciate a nice watch when i see one though.

I think if a man own's anything nice, it should be a watch.

I went with the Breitling Superocean Steelfish-black. A little pricey but a unique watch that goes with everything.

I don't even own a watch but if I did it would be a Timex or a swatch or something at the five and dime store.

Watch? Biggest waste of money next to a wedding ring.

No kidding.

I have a cheap ass digital and it does everything I need it to.

I agree. I used to have a digital Casio that I loved, but at my age I need to have an analog in order to see the time without putting my glasses on, so I bought a $45 Timex which was the most accurate watch ever; better than any Rolex or Omega that my friends had. Now that the Timex got all scratched, I bought a $110 Citizen, which is also very accurate, non-scratch and 200m waterproof.

One thing you guys need to do before buying those watches is read the reviews on Amazon or some other forum. You will find that, in general, when people end up with a good specimen, they are very happy, but those who end up with a lemon, have a very hard time with service and repairs, because those companies are used to everything going well, so they don't have a very good service department, they don't know how to deal with customers, and they think that there can be nothing wrong with their "wonderful" machines, so they are very reluctant to replace them, because that would be admitting failure, and the poor customers suffer horrors in the meantime. Of course, "suffer horrors" is a relative term, because after having paid several thousand dollars for a watch you don't expect those kinds of problems. After my Timex was scratched I was tempted to buy a more expensive watch, but reading those reviews was a sobering experience. I ended up buying the Citizen.

I would think that for 2.5M you could at least get a waterproof watch. I like my $45 timex which keeps much better time than my Victorinox Infantry which gains about 3 minutes a day.

There are only a few items that men can use as an accessory. The list is usually limited to watches, shoes, belts and cuff-links.

For those interested in maintaining an air of sophistication, nothing beats a quality watch and handmade leather shoes.

I personally prefer Omega, but the Rolex is famous for its tank-like build and easy upkeep. On the other hand, Omega watches require more maintenance (as mentioned above) and it isn't cheap....in the $300-$400 range every couple of years.

I have this one...

Hello, McGillGrad,

Your watch is absolutely beautiful. I too, prefer that instead of a Rolex.

Anyway, to comment on what you just said,

One of my coworkers takes his Rolex for the routine maintenance every couple of years and pays $600 every time. So, feel fortunate that you pay only half of that for yours (or maybe prices went up since you last took yours to the authorized service).

I carry the T-Mobile G1 Google advanced pocket alarm/watch that also has phone and internet capabilities that are not typically found on your more traditional watches.

Nice, but it looks a little silly on the wrist. Do you wear it with a bracelet or a strap?

I dress it up with a quality leather strap. It gives me a Dick Tracy rugged edge that chicks find attractive.

Normally I wear a $25 Timex Ironman. But the battery died about year ago and I've never gotten around to replacing it. I seem to be doing OK without it.

I got this monster as a gift recently. I break it out for special occasions or when I'm going to be hanging out with DWLW's (Doctors Who Like Watches). It's kinda hefty but it adds a little *bling*.

Mind you, *bling* is the last thing I need at most of the hospitals where I rotate. I usually carry something more like this:

What kind of watch is this??? It is awesome! Where can I buy it?

for the record, i found that watch by googling "ugly watches" and it was one of the first that popped up.

I was about to buy a Panerai, but realized that this was all the watch I needed. Plus I needed a car.

Best decision I ever made.

That is what I am sporting too. I prefer Casio's version of the auto backlight because you don't have to re-activate it every night. I wish the start/split button could be remapped because I constantly hit it inadvertently and change from time zone 1 to time zone 2. If I could get this watch face with kinetic charging, auto atomic sync, and Casio's backlight activation and snooze alarm, and remap the start/split button I would love it.

I recently received a rolex submariner as a graduation gift and highly recommend it. Definitely a very nice and classic watch for those who care, but also indestructible and very easy to just throw on and wear all the time without stressing about messing it up or anything.

Were I to select a Rolex, I would be very interested in this one.

It is probably too big for my wrist though. I have perfect épée wrists for you fencers.

Which one did you get? My first was the green 50th anniversary, and the second was the new black one (came out in September). Didn't need the first one, and REALLY didn't need the second one (and had a chance on a Daytona - which I TOTALLY didn't need, so happy I passed on it), but still love them. LOVE them!

Am a Breitling fan, but collecting is an expensive hobby. Currently have a Breitilng Chronomat Evolution 18kt/SS pilot bracelet, Breitling Colt GMT on a professional bracelet, Rolex Sea Dweller, Longines Dolce Vita, and a large Glycine California manual wind. Have given away or traded my Omega Seamaster pro "Bond" model, Raymond Weil Parsifal chrono automatic 18kt/SS, Baume et Mercier Formula S auto, Rolex Datejust, and Rolex Explorer II.
Am lusting after a Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver and/or an IWC Aquatimer, also the new Omega Planet Ocean and Breitling Super Avenger...but have a hard time justifying the extra expense right now as I have plenty of other toys with which to play. 🙂

Russian, I think it's just a pen but the tip is also sharp enough to cause damage. I saw a similar picture once before but it said NRA on it. So look on NRA's website. I'm guessing it may be under their store section. I'd do it for you, but I'm a little busy at work right now.

cool thanks guys.. I thought it was like an automatic baton or something.. but this thing looks cool definitely something look into.

If you decide to look into it, beware that there are two versions, the Tactical Pen and the Military and Police Tactical Pen. Here is a comparison.

Personally, I like the knurled grip/tip of the M&P version, but I prefer the screw on lid of the non-M&P version.

I wear a Vestal Destroyer in silver. Get a ton of compliments on it. PACU nurses always making comments on it.

Actually just got the new black Submariner around Thanksgiving ... love it.
