I have this question on many secondaries, but most of my ideas seem trivial or to have a negative stigma associated with them

My challenges:

1) Bad breakup sophomore year
2) Overcoming an addiction to pornography this past year
3) Learning to cope with Axis I OCD (diagnosed by a LCSW)
4) Cutting 15lbs to make the wrestlin team senior year
5) Getting cast in the lead role in my universities production of Pride and Prejudice last spring and being a little in over my head.
6) balancing my academics with up to 30 hours of rehearsals a week

Mature responses please. Thank you.

Definitely do not write about the porn addiction. It might come off as creepy to a lot of adcoms. I would do a combination of the last two. Theater is a lot harder than people think and takes a great deal of effort and determination.

If you can just pick one of those and spin it as a positive, showing who you really are, I think it will fulfill its purpose.

Number 1 sounds like a common issue that everyone would write about and would be very boring. Number 2 would sound more interesting to an AdCom but I am not sure if it would be appropriate. Maybe if you had a high level writing ability then I would suggest it otherwise I would just skip over it. Number 3 would be an option since it provides how you dealt with a hardship and still managed to get a decent GPA. Number 4 would be boring, just plain boring to be honest. Who hasn't dropped weight in general to gain something? Why not just lose the weight for a better health? Number 5 could be mixed in with number 6 which could net you a longer essay and a more interesting one.

tl;dr go with #5 and #6

5&6 or 3

Don't write about #2 but definitely write about it on SDN.

5&6

General consensus is that it's dangerous to write about psychiatric conditions. OCD, albeit mild, still falls into that category.

Thanks guys. 5&6 it is, although the 2 and 6 idea is awfully tempting haha

How important are secondaries? I mean if I have out standing numbers and good EC's and essays on my primary. If I only write an average essay for secondaries to top schools is that something they weigh heavily?

Thanks again

What do you mean porn addiction?
