I thought that was the whole point -- Addison was giving Izzy a completely unrealistic/hopeless task that was way over her head as a way of teaching her a lesson.

yeah i know it's unrealistic. all the medical shows are. one thing i don't get on the show ER is why are all of their trauma rooms so dark? how can they see what they're doing? all of the hospitals i've ever been too are extremely bright with fluorescent lights. i guess they make them dark for dramatic effect or something. oh well, i still love these shows.

I agree that there are some ridiculous happenings in any medical show, but this one is pretty much straight out of "When the Air Hits Your Brain: Tales of Neurosurgery" by Frank Vertosick, Jr., M.D. (page 53 of the paperback version). I just finished the book on my flight from Detroit to SoCal. It was during Dr. Vertosick's cardiothoracic rotation in his surgical residency. There's another story they took from that book, page 258/9 has the part where George finds that the donor pt is decerebate and Shepard takes her from the transplant team and CT scans her. It was when Burke was acting chief.

Yeah, I do really like the show (not as much as Scrubs), but then again it's just something that I find enjoyable. It's among the "more" accurate medical shows on TV, just look at Chicago Hope or some of the other pure drama/soap operas that happen to take place in the hospital. Regardless, it's television, it's entertainment. If you want reality, look to med school or residency; the closest you'll find on TV is the Discover Health channel. 👍

Clarification - Izzy was taken under the wing of the PERINATOLOGIST. But yeah, it should have been the neonatal specialist that took over once the babies were delivered.

Wow...I didn't know about that. 😛 Well I don't watch punk'd, so I can't comment on it. Pompeo/Grey just lights my fire. Btw, to be honest I've only seen bits and pieces of Grey's Anatomy until tonight, when I saw my first complete episode. I am officially hooked; I know how I'm spending my Sunday evenings from now on!

Also, I almost instantly became a hardcore Meredith/George shipper. Other than having the opportunity to be turning down cute, redheaded nurses, I identify totally with that guy! I know Meredith is probably going to end with the "neurosurgeon hunk" eventually, but just once why can't the sensitive "dork" get the girl? 😛

I noticed that too! I was always thinking how dark and depressing it is at that ER. Adds to the drama I guess.
