If you were guaranteed acceptance to a school (for instance WVU SoM), but were required to apply early-decision, would you take the guaranteed spot, or gamble on getting in to a different (hopefully better) med school?

Pretend you had a 3.8GPA w/ MCAT score of 30?

..this is all hypothetical :)

opinions?

Ummm....no I would not take my chances. Those scores are about average for schools if not a little low on the MCAT side.

I would take the guaranteed acceptance, definitely.

At what GPA / MCAT Score would you consider applying elsewhere?

Depends if I love the school. If not, I'd probably push my luck and go for a cycle.

I assumed people tend to apply ED only to their top choice, so this wouldn't be a usual problem to have.

Personally, I think applying ED is a huge risk, since if you don't get in it delays the rest of your applications.
