I would highy appreciate if someone could guide me the best way to start my prepration for NBDE part 1 as i plan to take the exam in July '05.
Also suggest wat topics need thorough study.
I already have dental decks an Asda papers,,wat else is req?
I am too confused right now.Please help!!

well me too taking the exam in june'05.I am doing decks,adsa papers and the text like chaurasia for anat....lippincot for biochem,jawetz for micro....
there is this book called first FIRST AID FOR USMLE....its good...u cab do kaplan notes if u have...
just start.....and u will get to know what to do...

I have 86 in part 1. NYU intv date March 31. Now after hearing your plight I am already heartbroken before going to intv. I mean they have called to, at best, waitlist me, right? BTW when was your intv? I am also planning to retake part1 in July.

Hello,

I am also planning to take my NBDE part 1 soon.

Here's what you need to do:

You can apply online for your NBDE at

https://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/natboard/content.asp

After you apply, you will have to send an ECE report to ADA ( they will not process your application until they get your report and the report must be sent directly from ECE)

So to send a report from ECE , apply online for you ECE report at
http://www.ece.org/

and you should mail them your transcripts.

This is all you need to do. The ECE will send a report to ADA and one copy for you. You can also request extra copies if you need them. Once the ADA receives your report they will process your application.

There is no need to send them your syllabus or a letter from dean (i think a letter is required for dental students from non accredited dental schools, and not for a dentist from non accredited dental school)

I have attached this information from ADA for an international dentist.

The following provisions are required for the verification of educational credentials obtained from non-accredited dental schools.

Candidates must submit an examination application and fee to:

The candidate should indicate on the ECE application that a General Report on the evaluation of the educational credentials should be sent directly to the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations. It takes approximately four weeks for ECE to evaluate credentials.


Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. will send the ECE General Evaluation Report directly to a) the candidate and to b) the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (if it was requested by the candidate on the ECE application).


The candidate must be aware that the Joint Commission will hold the examination application, but will not process it before the ECE Evaluation Report is received. All ECE reports must be in the Central Office by the application deadline.


The candidate’s name on the ECE report must match the name on the application. Any name changes must be accompanied by legal documentation

hi dr nandana...ece does require u to send a document which has allthe subjects undertaken in your b.d.s(i am assuming u are adental graduate from india)..and the hours of class attended for each subject(classes and clinicals)etc...which should be an official document from your college...its also called the transcript record...not the syllabus...it should have the no of hrs of labs,lectures and clinicals u attended...so if u don't have this document u need to get it from ur dental school for ece to evaluate course by course.incidently ada requires only the gen evaluation from ece which states that ur couse is equal to the four yr dental course for u to be eligible to take the nbde1 either cbt or paper based.

I actually got my transcripts evaluated course by course, as I was applying for a masters program and the university asked for a course by course. Now I am using the same for my NBDE.

I had called the ECE to ask them if a copy of syllabus was required for course by course and they told me that they didn't need one. So I just sent my transcripts of marks sheet, degree certificate and internship completion certificate and they sent me the course by course report. They didn't ask for any other extra documents. I graduated from Rajiv Gandhi university (Karnataka) and I too didn't know where to find the syllabus. Give them (ECE)a call or send an Email , they usually respond very quickly.

how is ur preparation going for nbde1? how many hrs a day u study? & from where u started the preparation?
i too want to take part 1 in june. i think it will be better if we can discuss our study plans with each other.i started with anatomy decks.

Yes, ECE report has to go directly from ECE. If you already have an ECE report with you, you will have to write a letter to ECE asking them to send an addition report to ADA. and that will cost you an extra $30. You will have to send them your Ref No and ADA address aswell.

I am actually applying for a masters program in clinical dentistry. I am taking NBDE as it makes my application stronger and its a requirement for licensure aswell.
No, they don't ask for a date while applying for NBDE.

there is a difference in the fee structure between PBT and CBT.. i know that CBt is $215 but dont remember about PBT.. u can check it out online...
i have no idea about california.. i think the NBDE part 1 application booklet has the info about the various centres.. in case u dont have the booklet.. u can ask ADA to send it to..
go to www.ada.org.
then click on contact us.
then go to NBDE and then fill up the required feilds.. they will send it to you...

r u all planning to give paper based.earlier i applied for comp. based, but now i sent a letter to cancel that & i decided to give paper based as perhaps we can do well on paper based without having stress from computer.
how u all r doing ,i m doing patho,finished with micro only.hey tootjie how much u have covered & what is ur method of studying , i have seen u on many threads, good, u r helping other.

i hate to say this again.. cause ive said this many times earlier...
but u have to read text books or atleast refer to topics u arnt sure about .
do not just learn the answers...
just to encourage u....
i also got 83 the first time i took the exam.studied from texts again.... gave the exam again 3 months later and definately improved my score..plus got admission last min.....
u have time to study again.. read thoroughly and still make it in time for early admissions to majority of the universities.
study ahrd.. and in detail... use text books.... u have the time.. put in ure best..
