I am also an "upper echelon"er and will withdraw soon.
Yessir,

Thanks for letting us know..for a while there, after not hearing from anyone about withdrawing from GW, I was getting a little scared. But having at least 2 people now say that they will be withdrawing, gives me hope.

Are there others out there who have been accepted to GW and are planning on withdrawing?

With that said, does anyone know if GW is also one of those schools that over-accepts people..I am just trying gauge where I stand at this point..

Thanks

thanks for letting us know adog and yessir. good luck next year!

everybody else--i know the waiting is driving you crazy, well at least driving me crazy-but i'm trying to be patient. hopefully, we'll hear good news this time next month.

Hi everyone-

From what I have read/heard it sounds like the GW waitlist is notorious for having a lot of movement. When you hear statistics such as 40% of the class is selected off of the waitlist, read old posts on SDN where various people posted that they had been accepted on a daily basis, in addition to the strongly-worded "upper echelon" letter you can't help but think this.

Any additional thoughts?

AF88,

Looking at teh stats, you are right, we can predict a lot of movement on the waitlist..but at the same time, what worried me was that no one posted GW on the "I will be withdrawing from school X."

I know I am a freak...Im worrying for nothing...I just want in!!!

Hey chika_NYC

I got the 'upper echelon' waitlist letter, but will be withdrawing as well...

Hey Folks,
I am one of your fellow upper echelon-ers, and the other day I spoke with a admissions staff member. I asked what the movement was like regarding their waitlist, to which I was explained: "the majority of students accepted earlier in the process are the same students who are holding multiple acceptances, and will have to withdraw (down to one) by May 15th. However, a number of the students either forget or put off until the deadline, so the majority of the movement won't occur until late May and early June"
I realize this isn't anything new, but I guess more reassuring that there are seats that will open up!

Maybe I didn't read carefully enough, but did you get the upper echelon letters after getting the initial waiting list letter, or was that what they sent you after the interview?

I received the upper echelon letter two days after the regular letter, but it was post-marked a week after the first one.

I did get a second letter after the initial "alternate" letter that told me I was still active in the alternate pool and I think they also sent financial info with that. I guess that's when I would have gotten the upper echelon letter if it were coming to me. I guess I just have to hope that most of the upper echelon people, in addition to the accepted people, don't want to go to GW.

I finally found out that the waitlist at GWU does not move until after May 15th. Just thought I would let u all know since I know some of us were wondering whether we would hear from the admissions office b4 then..

Sure why not... if the root beer has gone flat, there has to be an alternative 😀

any news? hoya i could really use a beer float about now. my state school put me on the waitlist tuesday, then sent me a rejection letter on saturday. 😡

so, anyway. c'monnnnnnnn gwu!! i have a feeling these next few weeks are gonna take forever.

I've been lurking a little and want to give you GW hopefulls something to smile about. Today I deferred my acceptance to GW. I'll start in the fall of '06 instead of this fall. So when you all are in your second year, be nice to the first years, 'cause one of them might be me. I think I'll be the oldest first year there!

Aww, how sweet, you're the guy who's friend's place caught on fire the night before your interview?

Gdubb... I am in the EXACT same boat as you!!! I had GW and my state school (University of Washington) as my top two schools, but I received a no-no letter post-interview... so I guess my decision is that much easier to make now... GO COLONIALS (fingers crossed that the 15th of May is fruitful for us all)!!!!!!

how funny is that...i'm just getting nervous because i'm not "upper-echelon" but i think i'm going to send a strong LOI in the next few weeks.
yes yes, my fingers are crossed for all of us. and even my toes. 🙂

Hey you all, I am wondering if anyone got an email today from GW's admissions counselor regarding housing and all... It was sent out to people on teh alternate list..I wonder how many alternates actually got that email, or was it to just the upper echeloners?

Regular alternate list here and no email regarding housing.

Good luck to everyone!

Hmm, I'm on the upper echelon and didn't get any e-mail. Did you get it? If so, what kind of info did it have?

no email for me either.. 🙁

i'm regular like sam....good luck ya'll.

I am "upper echelon" and received the housing email as well. 🙂 Perhaps a good sign?

Another "upper echelon-er" here, the email just gave a few websites to check out, like craigslist and some other like that, and some numbers of the apartment buildings within walking distance. I wouldnt worry about missing much, all of the info I think you could probably look up. It did sound sort of like there are few buildings in the area that are popular with med students, a good sign for people who prefer to live alone, but dont want to be out of the student loop!

I go the email this morning but I haven't sent in my letter yet stating that I even want to be on the wailist. So I don't know how they are doing this, but it did remind me to get that letter in! 😕

scrubz, are you an upper-echeloner or a regular waitlister?

gdubb said:

i don't even know... 😕 i just got one waitlist letter, it doesn't mention anything about tier, so maybe I am a regular one? But I think people said they got a second letter regarding their waitlist tier after they responded that they wanted to be on the waitlist. I don't know, can anyone clarify???

wow, it seems that the gw adm office is sending this out randomly...or maybe to everyone, just in batches..

I dunno how u guys feel but I was a bit teased by this email...It was like they were saying, go look for housing without even knowing u are gonna be living in it! I have been doing that already, have been looking for apartments but people would laugh in my face if i were to tell them that nothing is for certain yet.

But on the other hand, the fact that they are sending out these resources to everyone on the alternate list is a sign that there will definitely be movement on the list..and the people on the alternate list will eventually look for housing..

im getting tired of waiting....may 16th common already!

k im done venting..
sorry

To GDubb and everone else,

For those who are seriously considering GW, I'd suggest getting your letter of interest/intent as soon as possible. The sooner you get it in, the sooner (potentially) you may get an acceptance so that the sooner you can start preparing. Housing isn't that hard to come by in D.C., but, if you want to get something near GW, things get complicated because you'll be competing with other grad students as well as undergrads.

Also, if you don't mind living in Virginia, the medical school is literally a few feet away from the Metro's orange and blue line (Foggy Bottom stop). I'd say that the entrance from the medical school to the escalators are a couple of hundred feet... it's that close! More information regarding the Metro system can be found at:

http://www.wmata.com

Good luck everyone!

Sam

thanks for the info sam 👍
