handwritten vs typed update letters

So I"m sending update letters to a few medical schools and don't know if I should handwrite them or type them...

I feel like typing them makes them more professional but then writing them out adds a more personal touch/emphasizes you took the time to write it out vs copying and pasting an identical version to others schools

any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

This is 2009, type your letters. No one handwrites their resume to "add a personal touch"

Type. Agreed with the personal touch, but this isn't the place to be writing something out by hand.

Thank you cards? Handwritten, sure. Update letters? Type and sign.

should it be sent to the generic address or should it be sent to the dean, or both?

Type it. . you want it as professional as possible since you are applying to a "professional" school after all. I guess if you wanted to make it somewhat personal, you could spray some cologne or perfume on it! 😛
