harvard acceptances?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah I clicked the email me my PIN and I got the same "contact financial aid officer" thing...

lolz

sorry for freaking everyone out - I'm an official idiot

Dont' worry, j-weezy! This was all a drill for when (if?) the financial aid webpage ever starts working. Drills are good. We all know what to do now and, in the even of an actual status page break, we'll all be ready!

I don't know if I should feel any better. But I now know that at least I am not alone in this pure darkness:scared:
Thank you people and I wish you the best luck in the upcoming days.

i had a minor MI while i was reading the posts....can we find out sooon pleeease

we're all in it together...like SBBunny said, *if* there is a leak in FinAid's defenses, we'll be there to take advantage of it.

go FASCA!

this is what has helped me get through the day:

October Sky

try it!!!

I'm too worried to try after reading that article a few years ago about the Harvard Business School kids who changed a couple numbers on their URL that took them to their acceptance pages early and then got their acceptances withdrawn because they "hacked" the website.

:scared: Some of the most severe negative consequences of FinAid addiction...

I don't think that the HMS financial aid page is an "illegal" way to see your decision information- people have been using that page for the past two years with no repercussions.

That said, I'm going to avoid checking the status page for a little while.

Thanks guys. good to know. But do you think it was fair to those students to void their acceptance? I mean I understand it was illegal, but was it fair to punish them by changing their entire life? What if they ha donly applied to one school! I don't think it was fair, they could just give them a warning...

Anyways, now I am more scared and paranoid😱:scared:😱:scared:

Meh. There is a big difference between that and this.

Furthermore, just say that you were hoping to get started on the fin aid process.

It's ridiculous.

And it sounds like HBS was embarrassed.

Good morning, FASCA (Financial Aid Status Checkers Anonymous)! I still cannot log in. People could log in around this time last year.

I'm guessing that this means that decisions aren't really going to be mailed by the end of next week... it'll be the week after. I guess that'll mean that Easter won't be ruined by an HMS rejection. Of course, it's possible that the FinAid page won't actually work this year... but it's been working for years!

Maybe I'll call the admissions office. I bet they'll be thrilled to hear from me.

I called yesterday and the gentleman said, "Letters will leave the office next week, but probably not until the end of it."

Yep, I got the same message when I called- it happens next week. I don't know whether next week is way earlier than I'm ready for or way longer than I'm comfortable waiting.

Are acceptances and rejections sent out at the same time? or rejections first?

darn. things are getting later every year for just about every school. in another few decades, March decisions will come in July.

Are acceptances and rejections sent out at the same time? or rejections first?

Judging from the past years' threads, rejections come first, then waitlists and acceptances.

Here's my proposition: decision date should be a part of the US World and News ranking system. Schools that are really late should be docked a few points.

Uhhh....I hope the finaid site doesn't work though. That would be a dreadful way to find out I'm rejected.

Agreed. Also, thanks for breaking the radio silence, SBbunny...

I'm all about breaking silences. I'm also convinced that this thread needs to be better than the other school threads (...all of them combined). Even if I'm really unlikely to be selected to go to Harvard, at least I can contribute to this thread! Yay feeding my delusions!

haha every time this thread gets bumped my heart skips a beat

so does mine...anyone else gonna be on spring break when decisions come out? im not sure if its a good or bad thing but i feel like time away from SDN can do a body good

OMG, why do they suck at giving news? If you hear back soon, it's bound to be bad news. If you hear back late, it's probably good news. That, my friends, is called a lose-lose situation.

I'll be on break week after next, which is supposedly when the letters should be arriving if they send them out at the end of next week. Considering that for me spring break means traveling 45 minutes to my parents' house, I almost would rather stay at school and wait for the mail just so get this over with lol... sad I know...

this thread makes my stomach hurt.

even somehow even that can't keep me away.

So, upon re-reading last year's decisions thread... it looks like the financial aid page wasn't active until after an MD/PhD acceptance. Snail mail decisions trickled in about a week after financial aid activation.

Any news, MD/PhDs?

They are probably refusing to post just to spite us. Those jerks... 😡
Okay, not really. Well, maybe. I'm just so bitter...

I can't believe its already that time of year, though I feel like decisions have been much later for almost all schools than the originally claimed. Oh HMS, I know you won't take me because of my crappy interview, but please reconsider!

hi everyone! so i've been following the madness silently but i finally to join the anxiously waiting crowd and post. i was just curious if anyone else has had this happen and/or if it means anything or nothing. i have occasionally been trying the financial aid page and originally i would get the login failed when trying the student id and pin. when i only put in student id and put in pin, i got login id not found. please contact the financial aid officer. tonight i got the same login failed for the id and pin but when i put in the id and asked to email me my pin, it said: Your email address is unknown. PIN not sent. Contact your financial aid office. I don't know, just was strange since the msg changed. Either way, doesn't look good for me because if I was accepted and my student id was known, they would know my email address. Just curious if this was the case for everyone else. hopefully i don't start a panic!

Yeah, other people got the same message yesterday. I really don't think the financial aid page is a reliable way to find out whether or not you got in. It could just be that they didn't update their financial aid site yet, or that perhaps they decided to close that loophole this year. I'm not going to obsess over the status page. I'd rather just wait and see what shows up in my mailbox.

Oh no, here we go again. I've got to go get some liquid courage... and by that, I mean Hershey's syrup. Is someone who already tried the email PIN thing willing to try again? I didn't actually end up trying before.

If I read this correctly, you got messages that were new to you so you decided to post saying the message had changed? 3 pages later, people will discover the message has not actually changed...

I don't quite understand the obsession with checking the FA page. There's such a small chance it will work this year and others will post to this thread if it does. Now, checking my mail box for other schools' news.. no comment from me there.

oh ok, i know it probably means nothing. i'm just grasping at straws for any possible clue either way to end the madness. the suspense is killing me! i gotta say, i'm honestly not expecting much though...

Wait. Waiiiiit a minute. The page has changed. Before, it said to input your social security number in the student ID box and your AMCAS ID in the password box. Now it says to put your email address in the student ID and your AMCAS as the password. I tried it and got the same "login failed" message.

you're right...i didn't notice that. ok, that would explain the change in the message regarding "email not found" ....i'm not brave enough to put in my email address and then try to have a pin emailed to me... by the way, it says email address as of march 17th...do you think that's the date that they'll enter ppl in to the database and sent acceptances etc..

sorry if i made ppl panic, i was honestly just curious if it was a universal change or if the accepted kids got an email and the rest of us got this email not found msg. my b!

yeah i noticed that an hour or 2 ago....

thoughts?

I just tried to receive my PIN by mail, with my email address entered as my student ID (as per new finaid instructions). Same message as everyone else: "Your email address is unknown. PIN not sent. Contact your financial aid office."

Uh oh 🙁

I hope that March 17th is when they start logging people in... Cause this does not bode well for Ms SBBunny.

well...didn't work for me (same message as finallyjoined) and i don't think mudphuds have heard yet - at least no noise in the physician scientist forum...

Yeah... maybe there aren't any accepted MD/PhDs yet. Maybe this is just what it looks like- an update to their website. GAH!!!!!

actually, looks like this is the only way your email would work for getting a pin sent to you:
If you are a returning student who entered HMS prior to September 2004, your E-mail Addres is your official Harvard email account. You can receive your PIN by e-mail! Enter your E-mail Address in the "Student ID" field and click on the "Receive PIN by E-mail" link at the bottom of the "Log In" section. Your PIN will be sent to your HMS e-mail address right away.

It doesn't say that email comment for incoming students or returning students after 2004. also, i feel like it probably won't become active until monday, the 17th since it does specify a date. finally, it specifically says: If you have not yet been admitted to Harvard Medical School, you cannot access this system.

I feel like they are talking right to me. Ok, enough, i'm not checking again until someone says they're in. Boredom and curiousity got the best of me.

Okay, who wants to come up with fun, non-stroke-inducing ways to wait for Harvard decisions? Maybe I should take up knitting. That's how I handled the MCAT. Knitting. The test center almost confiscated my knitting needles.

copious amounts of alcohol?

How come everyone gets way more excited about Harvard than Hopkins? Would anyone here go to Hopkins over Harvard (if of course you hit the double lottery) and financial aid turns out to be about the same?

i dunno... i mean, school-wise, name-wise, student-wise, and opportunity-wise, both schools are pretty much amazing in my opinion. it's just that boston seems a lot more student-friendly than baltimore. then again, baltimore is cheaper, but i'd still lean towards HMS.

Boston does seem more student friendly. But then again, it is colder.
