hahaha you remind me of someone from last year's cycle. His name is Dajimmers and he is a first year at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Anyhow, it was the same deal for him.

If you look at last year's thread like this, which is almost identical in nature, he was one of very very very few regular SDNers who had gotten accepted at the Hbomb but he turned it down both partially for his wife because of her job and because it was cheaper to stay in Michigan amongst other reasons.

I guess I just don't think that the Harvard name is worth $200K more than a school like Michigan, Pitt, Chicago, or Vandy that might offer a scholarship.

Plus, as a Yankees fan, I hate Boston. Red Sox fans are the most pathetic breed of human waste on this planet.

I am definitely with you on that one. And even if rankings were a consideration those other schools that you named are all top 20schools with equally great reputations both clinically and research wise. Plus besides financial consideration you might find that another school's curriculum or general atmosphere mesh better with you then HMS as I think was also partially the case with the guy I was talking about from last year.

I understand how you feel. I just thought it was funny in an ironic sort of way cuz this year's HMS thread is a lot like last years right down to the Tee.

Looneytunes- were you original one of those "LOGIN FAILED" folks or the "contact fin aid office" message folks YESTERDAY? cuz if you were login-failed yesterday but now got this today, then that would be a significant change in their system!

Oh this was before the login page even comes on... when I clicked on the "My HMS..." on their FINAID site... some message about security of the page... but the funny thing was that it didn't give me the regular web page security messages that say "continue?" it told me to get the hell outta there!

Hmmm... maybe the system could tell it was me and that was my rejection...😱

Says a fan of the team that is hated the world over, not just Sox fans. And don't mistake that hatred for jealousy, the Yankees are what is wrong with baseball. The Harvard name for $200K is up for debate, but living in Boston v. Michigan or Pittsburgh, are you kidding? That is work 200K alone.

In case, for some reason, someone hasn't checked their email...
----

Dear Harvard Medical School Applicant:

The process of mailing the decision letters for the Harvard Medical School has begun and will be complete on March 19th, 2007. Our policy forbids giving out admission decisions by phone, email or fax.

This year, we experienced an unexpected jump in the number of applications to our programs. With so many truly impressive candidates, the Committee faced an especially difficult task in selecting this year’s class. I would like to thank each of you for your interest in Harvard, and your patience throughout the application process.

If you have not received your decision letter by March 29th, please email the Admissions Office at [email protected]. Letters are sent to the address you have listed in the “preferred” contact information as posted in the AMCAS database.

Best wishes,

Joanne M. McEvoy
Director of Admissions
Harvard Medical School

Damn...I didn't get the email. Perhaps they forgot I exist, it is a very real possibility.🙁

anyone else get the email? Basically, the email said that letters were sent out and will continue to be sent until 3/19

i guess they emailed everyone to get people to stop calling them!😛

i didn't get anything in the mail... but i think my fate is sealed... plus, i can't take holdin on to any false hope 🙁

didn't get the email.

what time was it sent?

No email either. Is that to subtly insinuate that I ain't worth their time? 🙁

i think they might be sending it out in batches. I got it twice--one at 3:27 pm and one at 3:32 pm.

i think you're right, just got it at 3:32pm... i wonder if this email is alphabetically distributed, or acceptanced/rejected order... i need to stop reading into these things... nevermind 🙄

i got it twice too, about 5 minutes apart.

for me personally, the email (which spends a lot of time talking about the massive number of impressive applicants, etc etc) was just a warm up...to prime me for the rejection that i will be receiving in the not-too-distant future...

also got it twice within 5 minutes. their reaction just lends so much credence to the financial aid login theory. :-(

at least they warmed us up with flattery though! 😀

email=stop calling and trying to figure out your status. We're rejecting you regardless because you're too annoying.
no email=you didn't bug us. Congratulations! You've been accepted.

But seriously, I also got it. twice. 1 minute apart.

I don't blame people for hating the Yankees. The fact is, we win all the time, and it makes people mad. I hate Sox fans because they are a whining group of hypocritical sissies.

The Harvard name just doesn't earn it's $200K, so I don't think it's much of a debate. The name gets you very little.

As I wrote above, I don't want to live in Boston. If you really think this is worth $200K, especially when you are in med school and studying all the time, then you're crazy.

And don't even get me started on Patriots fans.

Me too (finally).

do you think you get the email in proportion to the number of times you've logged on to the finaid website?

I want the email 🙁

I want the email 🙁

I got the e-mail, and I was rejected pre-interview. Are you sure you want it?

I'm sure it means nothing and they're just sending it out alphabetically or in some other order. I actually have already received my rejection letter via snail mail last week.

I wouldn't read into the e-mail thing.

I also got it twice. What does that mean? Wait-list? Both an acceptance and a rejection?

Yeesh, I have to swear off this thread; I keep promising myself I will to no avail.

I got the e-mail twice. I'm assuming once for the HST rejection (no interview), once for the NP rejection (interviewed).

As for waitlists: it seemed last year that folks who were on the waitlist did NOT have access to the financial aid site. The financial aid site also explicitly states that only accepted students have access.

So for those of you still hoping, :luck:.

I felt literally nauseated all day yesterday, but then I realized that I'm already really happy with where I could be going next year, at much cheaper than Harvard. Maybe Boston for residency, who knows...

Hopefully an email isn't a rejection. My login page or whatever had the "info not available" message yesterday, and I was able to request my PIN...

Random question: has anyone received the email who also got the "good" message on the finaid page?

yes, i think everyone will get it at some point. we shouldn't read into it too much. i'm sure they're just getting so many inquiries the office can't be productive anymore so they decided to send out a mass email.

unlike the financial aid side, I highly doubt the email=rejection.

It is a simple informative email which tells you by what date you should hear from them. Don't forget, many applicants do not surf SDN and don't exactly know when/who/what is happening with their application.

right, don't go to med school when you hate the city's baseball fans. good rule. are you sure you got a 42?

non-NY resident yankee fans are just top-notch people. too good to be a phillies fan or did you just need a 'winner' to latch onto?

It's called sarcasm. The only reason I wouldn't go to Harvard is because of the price. I'm not in love with Boston, but it's a good enough city, and the school is amazing. But since they give no aid to anyone, I don't think I'll end up there even if I get in because I can't afford it.

I grew up in NYC, and was raised a Yankee fan. I have lived in PA for a few years and thus am a PA resident. The Phillies are a sad, sad team.

You need to take things less seriously.

I just got the email (twice in a row) and I can't login to the fin aid site...I'm sure like others said that they sent that email to all 1000+ interviewees.

I don't blame people for hating the Yankees. The fact is, we win all the time, and it makes people mad.

You win so much that you've been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs the last two years, both of which you have had the highest payroll in baseball. 😕

Good point. My theory on this is that ARod is cursed.

The problem with the Red Sox isn't the team - it's the fans.

Me. Maybe they changed their mind since this morning (when I still had the "good" msg) 🙁

Don't give him to the BoSox, they just got rid of a curse. A-rod aka Mr. May (since thats the only month he plays well) won't win a World Series until he has a on the field production based contract, none of this money up front crap.

I got the bad message and got the email twice. Maybe I'm on the waitlist? (fingers crossed X)

Edit: it's funny how Harvard knows it f'd up and is desperately trying to cover its arse 🙂

Wow, please relax guys. You're making me worried for your health.
