BUT, for all my fellow Harvard wanna-be's:
So I was talking to some Harvard admissions reps the other day. They said, "are you interested in New Pathways or HST?" I explained that I didn't have calc-based physics or diff eq, so I would apply to NP. They laughed. Both of them. Seriously! Apparently, the fact that it says on the web site that you need that is sort of a little joke among them and hasn't been true for years. They say the majority of the students don't have it, and it plays no role in admissions decisions (although obviously it's good hard coursework and supplements and engineering-type app appropriately--I added that part). Furthermore, you can apply to both programs, be considered independently for both, and, in the chance that you get both interviews, they'll try to make them the same day. Anyway, maybe everybody else already knew this stuff and is laughing at me like the admissions people, but I thought I'd enlighten anybody who didn't.
