As has already been pointed out several times by T4C and Pterion, the bill almost definitely arose out of the DNP debate, which, with the fire behind it, caused the AMA to throw a haymaker without thinking the ramifications through. I don't think this was a swing at psychologists.

Indeed, but who cares about the intent if the end result would have affected every psychologist? You can see just how quickly this thread turned into attempts to de-legitimize psychologists. This is merely a microcosm of just how damaging and thoughtless this move was regardless of where it began.

I completely agree. It was a stupid bill. Psychologists and students had every right to be up in arms about it because it would affect them. I just don't think it was a bill with any aimed intent at psychologists, which seemed to be what edie was getting at.

I don't really care who it was or was not a swing at, loveoforganic. It affects our field regardless. Anyhow, you have no evidence who it was and was not intended for. The AMA is a very power hungry organization and is intent on controlling psychologists, nurses et cetera. As has been pointed out several times by others on this board, the AMA and American Psychiatric Association have tried to derail psychology at ever juncture (we can't do therapy, we can't do biofeedback, now we can't prescribe or use the term "doctor"). Wake up

And the APA just has the best interest of the patients at mind 🙂 All the organizations are power hungry - it's the nature of the beasts. Given the timing of the bill going hand in hand with the rise of the DNP degree, I don't think it's an uneducated guess at their rationale.
