Has anyone withdrawn from vet school, and then applied again?

I withdrew from vet school 10 years ago. I don't really feel like going into detail, but I was not failing. I applied again this cycle and intend to start over. I'm curious if anyone is or has been in the same situation as me just for some reassurance that it's possible.

Edit: update in case anyone comes across this thread - I was accepted to more than one school and my previous attendance in vet school was actually lauded in my interview! Seemed to be a non-issue. So if you're in my situation, don't be like me and spend 10 years telling yourself you don't get a do-over. (Though it probably helped that I got another degree and had career in between so I had those things to talk about during my interview)

I don’t know of anyone in this particular situation, and I think it would be exceedingly rare to be honest. However, I think if you have the recent coursework to show you’re capable of the higher level sciences after ten years and a rock solid explanation statement of what’s different this time around, I certainly think you have a shot. Just be prepared to talk about it a lot.

Hi I I left Ross during my first semester before finals and I’m currently reapplying to vet schools within the United States. I was told by several vet schools that as long as you didn’t fail out you have the same changes as everyone else

Oh that's great to hear, I didn't actually ask any of the schools. Thanks for the reply.

FYI, everyone at VMCAS told me something different about how to enter my international withdrawal since I had no grades (I went to RDSVS and we only got grades yearly, and it was 10 years ago so they didn't keep any of my records.) I'm sure your situation looks different than mine, but it took like 2 month to get everything sorted on my application so I'd get started on that process as soon as you can if I were you.

I had to have a Wes evaluation submitted by the day that VMCAS was due which was a headache but I managed through it.

Ooh okay cool. I couldn't do WES since I didn't have a transcript so it was extra complicated. I'm glad you figured yours out. Good luck to you!

When I left Penn (health reasons not academic) they “encouraged” me to reapply. Not sure if it would have worked or not, but they didn’t seem to look down on it. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply! Mine was mental health related but I didn't do a medical withdrawal because I didn't understand my (chronic) mental health issues at that point. They didn't seem put off by my withdrawal at all in my interview yesterday though! Kinda in a weird place at the moment because I realized I'm not even totally committed to the idea of going back, I think I've been subconsciously just trying to appease 10 years of guilt I've had for being a "dropout."
