For those who have noticed struggling/low levels of interest in OMT, what advice would you give? Just keep hammering away? Remind yourself that this is on the boards? I have little to no interest to study this stuff. Compared to gross anatomy and physiology, that is.

Remind yourself it's not all of nothing, either. Even if you aren't a diehard devotee, and don't believe in cranial and chapman's points, you can find some useful things to help your future patients.

I came in extremely skeptical, but now I really can see the benefit to patients. Outside of the "magic" portions of OMM, a lot of it is just physical therapy and stretching type treatments. Probably not going to use it in my future practice, but I don't mind learning it at all. Admittedly my school doesn't emphasize it as much as others so it isn't as much of a time sink

Honestly you shouldn't need to study this stuff. Just work on recognizing the fundamentals/principles at work and leave it at that.

Best thing to do is suspend your disbelief and see if you can learn something useful. And try not to laugh out loud when cranial techniques come up, and even worse, Chapman's points.

Also, I strongly urge you and your classmates to not give an inch when differencing Faculty teach totally different methods for the same thing. Your Professors should all be on the same page.

Don't challenge the OMM/OPP faculty on their unproven notions, either. For some, it can be close to religious belief. Which, ironically, would have appalled AT Still!

My students have figured this out and it actually takes work to do poorly in OMM/OPP classes.

And never, ever beat yourself up over "settling" for a being a DO student. You'll be a doctor someday.

Thank you!! Some of the techniques are strange, yeah, but not as strange as the die hard faculty. It really is a religious belief for them.

That's nothing (we also have two hours). Some of my friends at other schools have 4.... It really isn't bad as long as I manage my time well.

I never bought into it.... I studied what they wanted and the A's are easy ... I was most surprised when I taught more than a few people in the ED a pirisformis stretch for sciatica and was able to discharge them without a narcotic. Some of the anatomically aimed techniques are pretty useful

Even some the faculty at our school basically admit that it is junk, they just teach it because it is on boards. It really is only a small part of what is taught, I've been pleasantly suprised.

It can be frustrating, but you can also get some useful stuff out of it. Plus once you actually start learning some techniques and adjustment methods, you usually leave lab feeling pretty relaxed. I do miss the weekly massages...

I guess I should just be patient. There's been two weeks specifically where I left the lab feeling extra tight and stiff and just sore because my partner was way too aggressive with his/her touch. But I suppose once we're all much better at it, that won't happen

I agree, but I have seen direct personal threats made to Goro recently by some of these respawn posters. The stuff I've seen is downright illegal and, in some instances, scary. These people deserve for their career to be ruined because they themselves have ruined it. Goro is not talking about the repeat antagonists that simply troll the forums.

Doesn't matter. With the posts I've seen they deserve everything that happens. As someone with multiple family members in the FBI I can tell you that they take online threats like the ones I've seen recently very seriously.

I'm in a school where I have to be at school in the OMM lab for 4 hrs/week. This class doesn't deserve my full attention, meaning I spend the majority of my time in the OMM lab banging out flash cards and Qbank. If you are struggling with OMM, it would be best for you to spend about 1-2 hrs a week in the lab w/ a classmate. Just pass with the least amount of required effort.

Crazy thing, I personally know more than one "troll" with many accounts and many on here that 100s of posts that have been liked and responded. Accounts that don't support the SDN mainstream political views don't get banned. Simple. Utilizing the word "Troll" on SDN really has no meaning since it is applied incorrectly 90% of the time.

I'm going to call you out on this one. I have never seen anything even remotely close to "direct personal threats" to Goro. Never ever never ever. Nope, sorry, didn't happen. It's not scary because nothing happened. No threats were made. The only "threats" to Goro are his credibility which is nearly nonexistent. Nothing illegal occurred.
