Every time I go to sim lab and start drilling I get major headaches that last almost the whole day. Does anyone have an idea to why this might be happening?

My thoughts were that the reflection of the light on the teeth might bother me or the high pitch sound of 88 drills going at once...

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone try anything to fix it/have fixed it?

If it is the drill sound maybe earplugs will help?

Are you wearing loupes? Do you wear a headlamp? Dehydrated? Hate your life? Caffeine withdrawal?

I would say to get your vision checked and take some ibuprofen.

Check your posture. It could be a major contributor to headache and other body pain.
I also agree that using loupes is good, as are musician's ear plugs for reducing handpiece noise.

This is my suggestion - try to eliminate the possible causes by adjusting different things each time you go into the lab.

eg. Next time you go into the Sim lab - wear some earplugs and see if that works. If it does not work, the next time, dont wear ear plugs but adjust you posture. Essentially you are trying to isolate you problem.

At my school, we are in the sim lab for no less than 4 hours - so if you have not eaten a proper meal, a head ache from being hungry is not farfetched.

Please let me know if you find a solution to this probkem

Definitely check your posture...especially the angle of your neck when you're working. Staying in an awkward position for hours gives me headaches. Loupes could also be another problem. Make sure you the working distance is correct (could also affect your posture).

I'll get headaches as well if my neck is at the wrong angle in the sim lab. My loupes are fine and I don't twist around or anything, but sometimes I find that I'm looking down too much; I just reposition my loupes down on my nose and look down more with my eyes and less with my neck. Might check this, as well.
