I'm a really short person. Won't provide specifics but say nearly shorter than the female national average by almost half a foot. To boot, I'm a baby face and thin. While certainly valued when I grow older, it really doesn't help when people my age mistake me for 16 (this is on a good day).

Will this negatively affect me during interviews?

This doggo appreciates the responses.

Make sure you interview in the morning. You'll be taller.

.....THat's awful, I'm sorry. But you're applying to be a doctor, doctors are aware of people who don't grow as much as most people. I would try to carry myself as high as I can and make it more of an "elephant in the room " scenario.

There is definitely an inherent bias in interviewing that selects for taller individuals. Lets hope you aren't "short" on interviewing ability 😉
 
The answer, of course, is yes. As in all other areas of society, attractiveness improves others' perception of you. There is no way to alter this, however, so receiving an answer to this question is of no value. You simply do your best in the face of the many injustices of life.

Yes, it matters. People are unintentionally biased and like physically attractive people more. Many of us may say this isn't true because it makes us feel better; we shouldn't hide from the facts, though.

Don't let being short discourage you. Many people have become successful doctors while going through divorces, being poor, depressed, and so on. These are flaws and hardships like yours. So if they can do it, why can't you?

Sit on a friend's shoulders and share a Big&Tall suit, "world's most giant doctor" style:

Yes, because as a 6'3" person, my performance now in medical school and in the future in practice is entirely tied to my height..

For real, though, nobody cares. Just be yourself and prove your abilities. Being short sure didn't stop Jose Altuve from almost being American League MVP last season, it didn't stop Spud Webb from winning the dunk contest, and it didn't stop Russell Wilson from winning a Super Bowl.

One of the EOD instructors at dive school was like 5'4" or something. Very short dude. Scariest mofo I've ever met, and I've argued religion and politics with men who have killed people.

Being short doesn't mean you can't be confident and present yourself as such. Own the room.
 
One of the plastic surgeons I shadowed was like 5'2, and he is one of the most amazing surgeons I've ever seen (not that I've seen many). Physically, you'll be fine. No one is judging you on your height (provided you can check off the schools' technical standards). It could be worse. Like imagine going through medical school with one arm or being completely deaf. Not a knock on disabled people, but how will you hear your pager or auscultate the chest? How can you do any procedures with one arm?
