Help! Low tier MD school versus Post Bacc Program?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This brings up an interesting question. Obviously, OP is talking about a Caribbean school, so what would your advice be then? Drop a Caribbean and reapply, or take the Caribbean?

I don’t think it is a Caribbean.

I was accepted into a low tier MD program as an OOS applicant (after looking at their financial package, i'm looking at around 250k in debt) and was waitlisted in a middle tier MD program at home (looking at around 130k in debt).

Would someone call a Caribbean school “OOS” and “low tier”? Caribbs aren’t even on a tier of any kind. They’re nowhere on the ladder.

I think it’s a low-tier/unranked OOS public med.

I think he just spouted off those BS claims about this US MD school not knowing that we’d smell stink even across the internet. Many just don’t know that the USA doesn’t have any crappy MD schools with such poor rates.

But if it is a Caribbean, drop like a hot potato and apply to some real schools.

I strongly suspect that we were all trolled.

Maybe. But there’s another student who’s recently posted that she’s considering dropping her only US MD acceptance because it’s to her state’s best MD school, but she has stats for “better” and wants to be competitive for a top residency. (Of course, this med school can get her there if she does her end!)

So many students (compounded by their friends and families) have high expectations and put themselves under ridiculous pressure, that the idea of attending some MD school ranked 60 or worse just sounds (to them) as if they’re going to the community college of med schools.

I think it's the same person...both joined on the same day, I believe, and asked essentially the same question.

You won't get another acceptance if you turn down an MD acceptance. The schools next cycle will know you turned down an offer.
Seems that OP has left the thread so I'm going to hijack it and ask: how do schools the next cycle know if you turned down an offer the cycle before? I've heard this and always been curious. Do they check the previous year's acceptance report?

I believe that the AAMC includes a flag saying a candidate has previously been accepted in a previous cycle as part of the application. Not 100% sure, though. Maybe it was a question in AMCAS?

Yep, I read about the flag in another thread after I posted here, so I think you're right, that's how they know. Thanks!

I'm curious too. What about DO schools? Can MD schools see you've been accepted to a DO school and vice versa? Does AACOMAS work the same way as AMCAS so DO schools can see if you've been accepted to another DO school? What if you haven't paid the deposit yet at the time you reapply the following year?

Can you link the thread?
