SGU VS ROSS ? Which would you chose and WHY? Ross has an organ system based curriculum which I like. But Ross living conditions look much worse than SGU.
People's comments on here really shows they dont know what they are talking about. Real mature people on here.
I told u guys that I will retake my mcat and try my best to stay here. I did listen you guys are not listening and answering the question that as a last resort which would you chose! I asked that they do not comment if they cant answer that question.Your decision to shoot yourself in the foot instead of doing what needs to be done to get a quality education reeks of maturity.![]()
People answered it already, and the poll is overwhelmingly in favor of SGU. It is pretty clear that if you must go Caribbean then go to SGU. I can't tell you specifically why, but it seems pretty clear that SGU has something over the other Caribbean schools.Answer the QUESTION being asked!
SGU gives you the best chance to become a US physician, but it is a very expensive school... Since you said you are rich, you can use them as your last resort...I told u guys that I will retake my mcat and try my best to stay here. Here is the list of what you should do.I told u guys that I will retake my mcat and try my best to stay here. I did listen you guys are not listening and answering the question that as a last resort which would you chose! I asked that they do not comment if they cant answer that question.
We are providing advice of substance. We are literally trying to save OP from himself before he makes the biggest mistake of his life. If someone asked you "what alcohol goes best with my benzos and opiates?" you wouldn't just go ahead and tell them Jack Daniels. You'd tell them to not mix alcohol with their meds and try to save them from themselves. We're trying to help. Sometimes the best advice isn't the advice you asked for.I know that we all have our biases, but the OP did not ask for those opinions. If you do not have anything of substance to offer the poster, then you should not post on this particular discussion.

MCAT scores not predicting Step 1 scores or med school success is a great and heartwarming thought, but it is completely wrong:Back to studying MCAT ill try my best again to raise my score in a January MCAT before they change it. BTW MCAT score doesn't really predict success on usmle. I don't have time where do I start lol. Oh and rotations are really smooth nowadays just matching into a residency is competitive.

I am trying to decide which Caribbean medical school is the better option and why? All the other threads are so old and things have changed. Please don't comment if you are just going to tell me not to attend any of them, any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I am aware of the risks associated with Caribbean schools. I have been accepted to SGU, Ross, AUC, UMHS. The difference in tuition isn't a deciding factor.
If you're going to pick a Caribbean I'd just pick the cheapest one imo
I think your "i'm rich" statement displays your maturity. I bet your dad could beat up mine too.

Jack Daniels is always the way to go if you're drinking. So Jack Daniels is the way to go?
Anyway, OP should also consider podiatry if he won't retake the MCAT. He is definitely competitive for it.

that's how idiots end up at Aureal National College of International Scholars and Physicians, which is run out of a converted US embassy. Curriculum is First Aid 2011, a bunch of random powerpoints off the internet and cadavers of questionable origin.
How do schools like that even get to the point where they are allowed to hand out MDs?

Hey,
So concerning your recent question as to what school to attend, I would definitely choose ROSS university as their passing rates for the USMlE step 1 are incredible and their match rates are awesome. I would also advise you not to listen o the people who tell you to not go to MEDICAL SCHOOL because it is in the Caribbean's, I know soooo many doctors (surgeons to family physicians) that are doing so well and have went to Ross university. The people who put others down are 1. not in medical school. 2. have no life 3. have absolutely nothing to do with their OWN lives 4. Never went to medical school in the Caribbean's or graduated 4. Don't know what they are talking about because they have NEVER experienced it for themselves. So please don't be discouraged! Follow your dreams and shoot for the starts!! If becoming a doctor is your dream it doesn't matter where you go at the end of the day. I have worked and shadowed doctors who schooled in India for medical school and they are so knowledgeable. So please keep your head up and keep going 🙂

So, as a medical student you of all people know the pressures medical students as a whole go through (whether they are american or internationally trained) since when it comes to residency you may get out matched by a student who went to a Caribbean school. You would also be aware that supporting others in this process is more crucial than than criticizing. You would also be aware of the vast diversity in medicine as a medical student, since you work and study around people who have schooled in many places. Since, studies show that in the future more than half of physicians in the US will be foreign trained you should be aware that great residency programs are gearing towards how knowledgeable are the applicants rather than what school they attend. Good luck 🙂
- Please provide the evidence that Ross has great Step 1 scores. Bonus points if the people succeeded on their first try (without paying for a retake.)
- I'm in medical school. So are a plethora of others here replying.
- We have a life, called medical school.
- Why would I go to a Caribbean school when I like having a job and no debt in the future?
- You used the number 4 twice.
- Once again, I would never want to experience cold-calling hospitals, begging for a job until I get someone to interview me out of pity.
- If you're telling him to shoot for the stars, then the stars are a great residency program. Caribbean schools are for those trying to get to the stars with a cannon.
- India medical schools are not equal to Caribbean schools. Indian medical schools are there to train physicians wanting to practice in India. Caribbean schools are for those who unfortunately didn't have the knowledge of what those schools truly are.

*facepalm*
Yes, it does matter. Giving false hope is--in one word--irresponsible. If it didn't matter where you went, then Caribbean schools would have similar matches compared to U.S. schools. But the data states otherwise. Also, go talk to residency program directors about what their opinions are on accepting foreign graduates. Some programs don't even look at them.
Perhaps it is you who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Please quote these studies. Medical schools in the usa have been expanding the last few years at an exorbitant rate..
And you have done your research, right? You apparently know residency program directors, and have their numbers to call them up on your spare time and ask them about acceptance of foreign grads? From experience, I know and have worked with brilliant doctors who went to Ross university and are making twice as much as the quoted salary and changing the face of medicine. So yes, I give hope because at the end of the day that is all that truly matters. When you are rushed to the ER for a possible MI (myocardial infarction) and feel as though you are dying (impending doom) i am pretty sure you will not mind who touches you, rather how you can get healed FAST! 🙂 God bless you
Why do I get the feeling you live on a certain island in the Caribbean? In the past yes, many could get back into the us. The door for fmg and img graduates is shutting pretty fast.
The internet is open for everyone, thank God for Bill Gates, Dick Chaney and the American Government 🙂
