I've been complete at some places for over four months now... it's a long process, you'll have to be patient. I wish you the best of luck though![]()
Over 4 months for me too. But do you still anticipate possible invites from those schools? I know that theoretically it's possible, but I wonder how probable if we've been complete for over 4 months.
yea, i'm kissing any dreams of yale or northwestern goodbye.
From my experiences of applying last year, depending on what time you applied in the cycle(if you applied early, there isnt much waittime for interviews), will influence your time of interview notice. Last cyle, I submitted my secondaries in late Dec/early Jan, and did not get interview invites till late Feb for mid March and April.
I looked at ur stats, I thought it was really good. did u really not get into any school with ur MCAT score.... I think I have no hope then

I didnt get in, I was waitlisted at all the schools I interviewed at. Yet, I wouldnt compare your stats with mine. Everybodys app is different(state residency makes a big difference). While my stats are decent, there were probably certain weaknesses I had on my app that hurt me, such as a lack of research(I never did because of a lack of interest in the research available at my school, as well as my busy work schedule) and probably weak LORs(I never networked with my science profs).
Certain schools do have different policies in regards to reviewing apps. I was informed by UC Davis and SUNY Buffalo that they hold off on reviewing apps till later in the cycle. When I interviewed at Davis and Buffalo in March/April, they said that 50-75% of their seats were still open. At Buffalo, there was also lots of movement off their waitlists. As for Drexel, I interviewed for a waitlist spot(I was pissed, since they never informed me before the interview that I was interviewing for a waitlist spot).

They actually told you at the interview you were interviewing for a waitlist spot? Yeah...I think I'd be pissed too. I'm interviewing there in january, which is probably too early to be interviewing for a waitlist spot (I think), but if that's what it turns out to be, I'm going to be miffed as well...
OK, I have been complete for about two weeks. I am one of the few people that turned in late secondary apps. Is there anyone else out there? Do I still have hope?

man....join the club!
i submitted my secondaries really late too (basically by the deadlines for more than half of the schools!) ...applied to 38 schools!
i had two degrees in dentistry.....a foreign BDS and an american DDS that i just finished this last week.....have a great class rank and a pretty good GPA (3.90, 3.81) and i still didn`t get a single interview....makes me wonder what the hell do those admissions committees look at in their stupid evaluation process!
this is my third degree and third application to such professional schools and u know what....it never gets any better .....it is still just as depressing and frustrating as the first time!
good luck to all ...

I was pretty pissed with Drexel because I specifically asked them that after getting the interview invite about this and they told me no. Then, when I get there, they tell me the class and waitlist was full, and hence I was interviewing for a waitlist spot. If I had know that, I wouldnt have spent the money to go there.
While the students are Drexel were really cool, I wasnt impressed with the school(esp relative to its costs). Along with the admins directly lying to me, I was left with a bad impression of the school, and hence the reason Im not applying there this year.
Random and off-topic, but what do you plan on doing with a DDS/MD/PhD? I'm interested because I've never heard someone attempting that road before. Good luck on this cycle![]()

A PhD would augment your MD in getting into the high end surgical specialties. The rest, I was hoping to get into something like plastic surgery and continue to do dentistry (a high end cosmotic dentistry would definitely do it for me)
hey!
well, about random: this whole place is about random!

I have also met a guy in chicago who did an MD/DDS and followed that with OMS and then ENT , and he seemed very satisfied with his path.
I might add, looking for a sense of accomplishment! and you might right about that for a start!
I guess you would see more crazy people around once u near ur last years in ur MD.
good luck
Just got an interview invite a hour ago from Boston Uni, and I sent in my sec to them in Sept. So I think you should realistically expect to wait 2-3 months to hear back from schools.

I am so close to tears. I have no interviews as of yet either....
I was complete in the middle of October. My secondaries were all sent in early September but my LOR went out in October (I don't regret this, because everything had a reason for going the way it did.) I have a 4.0 GPA and a 32R MCAT and a strong committee LOR and good EC's I think.
I'm beginning to see status check pages in my dreams. I'm obsessive.
If getting in was purely a measure of just how badly we want it, we'd all be in already... 😉

Unfortunately there are so many applicants that often, more than just GPA/MCAT goes into the crazy admissions process.
hi blade!
actually, yes ! i am getting a taste of this pain in the B*** process right now!😀
althought, its not the first time for me to be in a nearly similar situation so I know the drill!
Again, unfortunately, this isn't usually true. See this thread for a good discussion.
I have also noted ur CT surgery posts and seen that u almost always included at least a couple of years of research to improve an application strength wouldn`t that be pretty much very related to a PhD.
Mayo holds two spots for dentists to enter their medical school. Check their link out describing the program:
http://www.mayo.edu/mms/md-oms.html
hi phoenix,
thank for the link. actually iam aware of those combined programs and I even did some extensive rotations in OMS and reached to a conclusion that it was not for me!😀 beside the fact that most OMS programs are competetive enough so that many OMS applicants decide to do an additional general practice residency in dentistry after their DDS. its usually in the form of AEGD (advanced education in general dentistry) or GPR ( general practice residency- which is more surgery based) in order to improve their chances of getting into OMS. It is also amazing that most of the combined MD/OMS programs will award you a weird MD that you would need to go for one transitional year (in most programs) before u r considered fully an MD!!!
iam also afraid that an MD that was awarded in such a weird fashion will not put me at the top of the pile of applications of regular MD.s applying to more competetive residency programs!
sorry for replying in this post with a different subject!
best wishes

It's sad and hurts to see that people with gpa and mcat less than ours get interview eventhough they have submitted apps long after we have submitted.
I get mad when people talk about late application. I know people who have submitted AMCAS as well as secondary after mid-sept and have got interviews even with not good gpa and mcat.
They had goood ECs.
Does that mean studying for MCAT is useless if ECs are going to cover for bad gpa and mcat?
Well but wouldn't the counter argument be that most DDS programs nowadays have a very similar basic sciences curriculum to the MD programs? I mean, wouldn't it be more like just doing 1-2 years of rotations and perhaps a few physicianship classes to equate? I dunno, I think I would consider a Dentist who got a 1 year MD equivalent to a 'normal' MD.

I wouldnt say that studying for the MCAT is useless, but I have noticed that lots of ppl with avg(30-32 MCATs) and decent GPAs(3.5-3.7) getting into top tier (ivies,UCs) medical schools because of their ECs. From my experience, alot of those top schools will put a lot of emphasis on research, and highly value ppl that have done it(even though, most likely all they were doing BS/mundane tasks such as titrations, cleaning dishes, or killing/jacking off rats or rabbits (not kidding, a buddy of mine did sex hormone research and all he did was jack off rats and rabbits)).
Wait!? You are gunning for a PhD just to increase your chances of getting into plastics?

when do we start getting rejections...... i'm still waiting
