Hi everyone, based on your experiences which combo would be better for a semester?

chem 2, physics 1

OR

chem 2, bio 2

If I do chem 2, physics 1...then next semester I'll have to take bio 2 + orgo 1.
If I do chem 2, bio 2...then next semester I'll have to take physics 1 + orgo 1.

Ultimately, which plan would provide the easiest semesters?

Do you think that it would be an overload to add statistics in there?

thanks so much!

Chemistry 2 and Physics 1! It's what I'm doing right now lol

I'd take Chem 2 and Physics 1 just because those are the two classes I'm taking this summer. Also because there both math based classes and Organic and Bio are more memorization.

When do you plan on taking physics 2 - two semesters later?

Basically...how bad is that? I just really don't know how to set up all these difficult classes with so little time, and most I'd have to take before the MCAT

I personally would take stats with Bio 2 and Ochem, but if you think you'd be able to also take it and do well in all three than add it.

As someone who had a very big mix between physical sciences and liberal arts classes, I can't stress how much easier it is to take related content at the same time. This is because, in my experience, learning conceptual courses and memorization courses at the same time is much more difficult than taking courses that have the same style of learning. That's why I support this route:

Physics and Chem also have a very related style of learning and a lot of shared concepts. Organic and Bio don't, but nothing really relates to Organic. It's its own beast.

If you're going to add in statistics, I would strongly suggest doing it at the same time as Physics and Chemistry. Not only is statistics pretty easy, it really helps you understand mathematical principles in these courses.

Good luck!

Awesome, thank you all so much!

So basically this is about what the next semesters look like (just prereqs here):

summer 14: bio 1
fall 14: chem 2, physics 1, stats
spring 15: bio 2, orgo 1, sociology
summer 15: psych
fall 15: orgo 2, physics 2
spring 16: biochem, genetics

don't really know the rest, I'm graduating spring 17.

Are any of these classes together a bad idea?

When are you taking the MCAT?
I think the best time for me would be summer 2016, the summer before my senior year. Is that a bit too late, should I take it in the spring of senior and then maybe retake in the summer?

Are you planning on taking a gap year?
No. I thought it'd be best to take it in the summer because if I take it in the Spring, I'd just have started biochem and genetics, two very recommended courses for the MCAT

Oh, well you'll want to take it before your senior year, preferably the spring of your junior year or as early as possible in the summer because that same summer is going to be when you apply for medical school.

Yeah you're right, I'll probably take it somewhat late in the spring then and then retake in the summer. Thank you! 🙂

Of course! But generally speaking you want to aim to do well enough the first time around so you don't have to retake.
