First we had CSI and others of its ilk. Now NBC brings us this fall Medical Investigation . Saw a trailer for it during the interminable previews at The Bourne Supremacy . First time I've seen an ad for a TV show at a movie. Anyway, now the masses will stream toward the field of Pathology until they realize all it consists of is examining dead bodies, sitting at a microscope for hours looking at boring slides, babysitting some chemistry machine, or other such nonsense, and the only people they will interact with are unidimensional automatons known as "other pathologists". Hopefully they will go elsewhere before it's too late for them. 😉

I don't know...on Friday when I was leaving the morgue I was accosted by two guys in trenchcoats who wanted to know what I did with the money that had been inside Jimmy's belt. Then I had to dodge a hail of gunfire to get out of there, and the car ride home was made a bit interesting as I was being chased by 5 cadillacs.

It was worth it though. The girl who was left shaken and disturbed at the crime scene was really smokin' hot.

I like this one.

We should start an all-pathologist soft ball team, or maybe a band of superheros, or maybe a soft ball team made up of superheros who are pathologists. We shall do battle with the hordes, and defeat them. The multitudes will know us as...

The Unidimensional Automatons

(Just remember: "There's no 'I' in team. And it was me who came up with the whole team idea. Me!")

Or we could start a band. Who plays instruments here?

I play the piano, the kazoo, and the triangle. I wish I played the banjo and the violin, for what it's worth.

Automatons, that's a good one. As long as we get to be antisocial, because I went into pathology so that I could be antisocial and have everyone say, "well, he's a pathologist, that's why he went into the field in the first place."

If we have a softball team we have to get Jennie Finch to pitch for us. I'll catch.

Drums here...
Been a while, but im sure i can pick it up fast....

Quant

PS- I dint mention superpower stuff....i can juggle 3 knives....im not kidding,i m an avid part time juggler. Im trying to practise juggling 5 balls...(to expand my superpowers... )

I'm a drummer, too (although I haven't played in quite a few years now).

As far as superpowers, I can chew gum, rub my tummy, and pat my head at the same time.... 😛

I have a knack for whistling and boast the superpower of being able to melt ice and snow with my own hands. Sign me up.

i rotated with a state medical examiner, and CSI pissed him off to no end

you may actually be closer to the truth than you think-- look at how popular ER has become . . . . it's only a matter of time before your little world is invaded by gloryseekingpremeds. :meanie:

I play the banjo. Come....join the dark side. 😀

I play mean heavy metal guitar (not a joke---I really do).

One of the forensic pathologists I worked with says to the jury nearly each time he testifies "and this CSI crap you see on TV is not true" and then goes into detail about how we can't precisely determine the time of death, etc. It's pretty funny.

Holy damn! Same here dude. Mainly rhythm guitar though...still working on playing fast solo's cleanly. I recently bought an Yngwie Malmsteen custom Fender Stratacaster. Quite an interesting feel with the scalloped fretboard...still getting used to it.

What are some of your favorite heavy metal bands if I may ask?

I played the piano and violin up until college. The banjo and guitar own the violin though.

You play the triangle too? Same here. My favorite song to play was Beethoven's Sonata #4 in Cminor for the Triangle.

If Jennie Finch truly did pitch for our softball team, I would have guessed you would play catcher. It seems like you like to be on the receiving end from someone who plays rough 😀 😉 😀

You may certainly ask! At the top of the list is Metallica; they were my inspiration to start playing. The rest, in no particular order, are Pantera, Meshuggah, Anthrax, Slipknot (wasn't a big fan at first but their new album is awesome), Down, and others that are not always classified as heavy metal including Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave and Guns-n-Roses.

I'm not very good at solos either. I can half-ass my way through Metallica's "One" solo but I have the tab and I know I miss a lot of little nuances. I think I was always focused on Hetfield's rhythms rather than Hammett's leads.

I always wondered what the Yngwie strat was like. Do you like it? What other equipment do you use? I've got a Kirk Hammett model ESP LTD, an older Ibanez and a Crate half stack. Noize! :horns:

What is this strange language thou art speaking? How does one pronounce Yngwie? Sounds like some kind of religious term for "He whose name shall not be spoken."

Have either of you gents listened to Robert Fripp or Adrian Belew?

How about Steve Vai or Joe Satriani?

I have heard of all 4 and have listened to material from Vai and Satriani; haven't heard much from Fripp or Belew but from what I've read about them, I have a feeling I should check them out. Vai and Satch's stuff is so complex, it's amazing to listen to. I don't think I'd ever be able to play it.

I think Yngwie is pronounced "Ing-vay" which is indeed similar to Yaweh...hmm...

I havent listened to fripp or belew. But I have many of Vai's and Satriani's CDs. Other guitarists who I idolize are John Petrucci, Michael Romeo, Yngwie Malmsteen.

yep that's how his name is pronounced.

have you heard yngwie's concerto for the electric guitar in E minor? It's quite impressive. It's actually a classical music piece with him as the soloist. It's got some Bach, Vivaldi, Paganini styles intermixed in. Quite fascinating...this guy is very talented.

You guys should check out "Shut up and play your guitar."
It has some unbelievable guitar jams by Zappa....

He inspired Vai.

Who is your favorite drummer and bass player.

I like Bruford and Bozio (drums) also Palmer from ELP.

Entwistle, Patatucci, Clarke .... Ineed to think about this more.

I think Zappa is one of my favorite guitarists.

Bill Bruford is great (I loved his work on Yes's Fragile . I was really into Lars Ulrich from Metallica early on, and I also like Dave Weckl and Art Blakey.

I'm mainly into listening to guitarists. But I do have my favorite few drummers. Since I'm mostly into metal, I like Vinnie Paul (Pantera) and Igor Cavalera (Sepultura). In terms of bass players, I like (the late) Cliff Burton from old school Metallica and John Myung (Dream Theater).
I'll probably be able to think up some more names later.
