When did the DO degree first come into use? have they always worked alongside MD's? If a school decides to add a medical program, is the process of setting up a Osteopathic school different than the process of setting up an Allopathic school?

as far as setting up schools, each has to go through different accrediting bodies. but they're probably pretty similar processes, i just wouldn't know.
