Holding Multiple Seats?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't see a problem with that regarding the rules. However, some of the people around here still waiting to get accepted may have a thing or two to say about it, at least I would. Don't do it Doc2b, that is why they have deadlines. Are you having a hard time making a decision? If so, maybe sdn can help you with that. 😉

Can you hold multiple seats until March? If I were to put down a deposit at Nova and KCUMB?

I did.

well...if you have the money to do it, I guess you earned the right to be able to do that...you applied early and worked hard to get accepted to more than one school...I do agree with Medic though...some people are still waiting around and might not like the idea of somebody holding their potential spot in a class! you make the call! 👍

-you worked hard to earn those acceptances & shouldn't base your decision on the convenience of others--> if they worked as hard as you or harder, then they wouldn't be hoping for you to withdraw so they can have your spot

-this is about your future----don't force decisions until you are ready

Yes, you can. If you have that kind of money to fork over.

I am waiting to see where my twin bro gets in, was going to go for KCUMB, but he got an interview today at Nova. I am going to hold at both places.

Thats a good reason for holding. Hopefully your twin brother has an equally identical application, and will get in at both places as well. :luck:

I hope he only gets in at one and will make my decision for me, it's so hard...

 I tried to get my boyfriend to do the same for me, with no luck 😛

 Twice the fun!

I don't have a situation like that, but I may do the same thing if I was in your place.

I'm holding my one acceptance right now. If I get into a school I decide I like even more than I will withdraw my acceptace, cut my losses, and go to the other school.

Don't rush into a decision. The worst thing you could do is make the wrong choice and be miserable for the next four years.

I'm holding multiple acceptances. I don't see a problem with it....sooner or later, I have to choose and that seat will open up regardless of whether or not I was holding on to it.

Yeah I don't have a single issue with this. I put my app in first, got in first, all anyone else can do is bitch about it.

For all of us who are wait listed... it is people like you Doc 2b that are making this year much harder. Anyone else holding acceptances? Shame on you!

AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! :scared:

Oh take it somewhere else! Don't rip on those who are doing their best to make a decision😡 He has a good reason for holding slots at two places. I'm sure Doc2B will withdraw his app the moment he makes his decision.

Don't blame him because you weren't able to get an out-and-out acceptance. He worked hard to get where he is at, and now he is making a big decision that will affect his next four years of life. For crying out loud, its not even December yet.

The fact that you don't have an acceptance should not be blamed on another individual. Medical school acceptance is based upon your credentials & performance----not another's.

You may still get an acceptance, so don't give up.

Applicant Protocol of the
American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine

5. Applicants who have made a final decision on the medical school they plan to attend have the obligation to promptly withdraw their applications from all other schools.

This is pasted from the aacomas website https://aacomas.aacom.org/. if you click on the before you apply link, it will give you a list of responsibilities as an applicant. i couldn't provide the link to the actual page bc it was a pop up.

i don't know how seriously you have to take it, or if there are any repercussions for not going along with it. i only became aware of the policy last year bc i had a friend who withdrew his applications from all other DO schools after getting one acceptance. i can't imagine they would rescind your acceptance or anything, but you might want to look into it anyway.

The key there is you have to have made a final decision, I haven't. So I don't see how they could say anything. I already sent the deposits.

Yeah, right.

Noone can scan your brain to see if you have really made your final decision or if you aren't for sure.

You've read 1984 too many times.

The AACOMAS is not "Big Brother."

well some individuals might perceive sending in a non refundable deposit as a final decision, but by your logic, one could decide the day before graduation that they don't want their degree from a specific school.

Its not. Yes, you could wait the day before classes to withdraw your acceptances at multiple schools, but what would be the point? Most people withdraw as soon as they make a final decision...sometimes it doesn't happen right away. Get over it. You are the one responsible for your future, not anyone else.

You may have been accepted to 2 schools, and wish to learn more about both to decide. You have to send in the deposit regardless to hold your spot until that decision is made. You may wish to attend classes and speak to current students or perhaps see where your spouse or significant other is accepted.

Your comment about graduation just don't make any sense.

I sent in a deposit to AZCOM before I was even invited for an interview at OSU-COM. Was AZCOM my final decision? No.

It is funny how once you get accepted to multiple schools you tend to forget how it feels to simply want to be accepted by any school willing to take you. The fact is that there are many qualified people that deserve to go to medical school. Just because a person is not accepted first, does not mean that they did not work as hard as another applicant who is accepted. I would have to say that you should decide on one school and let another person have a spot. Yes, you should make the decision to go to the school that you want to be at, but not at the expense of another person who also wants a spot. Good luck in your decision. I know that it is not easy as I had to make that decision a couple of years ago as well.

Medical schools often accept more people than they have spots. Therefore, the multiple spots being held DO NOT minimize the chances of other people being admitted to any significant extent.

If you disagree with this, contact your school's admissions office.

The reason they do this is BECAUSE of the the fact that multiple acceptances occur, and people will inevitably withdraw from some.

I can't believe people are arguing about this. Of course I remember what it's like to not know, I am a reapplicant so I have no sympathy for anyone, very few have waited as long as I have. I hope the mods close this thread, I'm sick of hearing the whining.

This is a non-issue. As OSUdoc said, schools overaccept. CCOM for example accepts around 100 more people then they expect. Thus, the argument that you shouldn't hold a seat because someone else might not get in, is invalid.

How about you make it easier for everyone and just pick 2 of your schools.

AND MAKE A FINAL DECISION BY JANUARY WHICH ONE YOU WOULD LIKE.

Hey as long as you are sending the deposit to the school... and you have lots of money to spare, than why not.. the school will take you 1000$ and accept the next person on the list.

BUT... I do prefer the first option.. just make a bloody decision by January.

For those who have not been accepted.. this is not limiting your chances... it just limits your emotional control. It is difficult to be waiting. But at the end it will all work out.
