Im currently a first year (NYCOM) and lately all ive been doing is studying by either going over the materials in class or looking at books. Hopefully, with all this effort, I will attempt (attempt being the key word) to get honors in some of my classes. Ive been reading the lectures but mostly Ive been reading the books (cuz all the teachers are telling us to use more books than notes). How do I know whether the track that I am on will help me to achieve this? Should I just focus more of my time memorizing the notes and occassionally reading the book or should I hit the book and try to get a general understanding then when the time comes hits the notes and start memorizing? (Oh yeah, although I wouldn't mind the "it all depends on how you study" reply, some personal insight wouldn't hurt. Thx

books are good to read. but most likely, you will be better of reading your course notes until you have every line memorized.

Try to get through the text as best you can, but make sure you've read the notes about 5-10 times.

good luck.

p.s. I don't go to NYCOM, so check w/ some current 2nd years at your school.

Here at PCOM, the profs tell us that their lectures are what is important. They tell us to read (Robbins, Harrisons, etc) but if they talk about it in lecture, there is a good chance that it will be on the exam, on boards, on rotations, and (someday) in our offices.

I don't know how they give note to 1st year this year. To my experience, we all study the note and use textbook for reference. However, I heard there is change for anatomy class and not sure for all other class. What I suggest ppl to do is if you don't have time to go through all assign page for book, go to lecture and make sure what each professor emphasize and screen out things that they bearly touch. Maybe it will help. again, it depends on ppl's study habit. .......... 😀 😀 😀
