On AADSAS there is a work history section. If you feel that putting your employment there would hurt your application then don't put it on. I would think showing that you worked during school and had a good GPA would help strengthen your application. Although personally, I would not put that I was a male stripper on my application, but overall it is how you want the adcoms to see you as a person.
 
haha..except stripping is not the same thing as serving wings in short orange shorts. If this were you, would you include Hooters?

I couldn't think of a male equivalent =). I don't know how women think about other women working at hooters, but if you give me a equivalent for guys I will tell you if I would put it on.
 
I LOVE what Hooters stands for...

I think you should put it on your application. Hooters is a legitimate establishment and it really does demonstrate that you can handle a full academic courseload and a part-time job. I think it's very unlikely that it will reflect negatively on your application...

unless you're applying to LLU, in which case they'll give you an interview just so they can exorcise you.
 
haha yea..it's mostly women that hate it. Earlier today I asked my mom to pick me up a chicken sandwich from Hooters (to-go). She gave me a dirty look and told me she does not support Hooters.

I wouldn't put it on my application. It could possibly promote a bad image and you may be looked upon negatively. It's not a risk I'd be willing to take when it comes to an acceptance dental school or not.
 
I think (or, ideally, I would hope) the men and women reviewing your application are objective enough about it to appreciate the fact that you held a job while keeping a high GPA...if any school is really going to judge you based on (like you said) a legitimate job, then you're better off somewhere else anyway. I would include it if I were you...who cares that its Hooters, they should respect you as a busy server just like they would anyone else working at TGI Friday's, Olive Garden, etc.

I don't know, the consensus so far seems to be a no-go, but its up to you...if that's all the work experience you had during college, then I would put it, if you had other jobs you could list, maybe leave Hooters out...either way I think it should demonstrate your ability to manage your time responsibly.

Sweety put it in your application. It would show your involvement in work while maintaing your high GPA. So what you got a hot body...you worked to pay for your expenses in college. Think of it like this, there would be gaps in your education/college years that they would think something is wrong if you dont put it.

Here is where you should worry. If you dont have any dental experience or work/volunteer at a dental setting, then that would put down your app. If you have that and maintained a job, regardless of where its at, then put it down; it would make your application competitive.

Well said, and they like students who maintains a high gpa along with a job. At my interviews, the interviewer said 3 times "i am impressed by your transcript and the fact that u maintained it while working"

So? Like Hooters, it's just another job...I really doubt any ADCOMS are going to take the time to Google applicants anyway. Maybe it'll help diversify your application that much more.
 
Please! You should google Sarah Palin, you could find pictures of her in bikini clothing as well, and you know what office she is running for right.

Don't worry too much, but make sure to be able to explain the transition from all that into dentistry.

i dont now about hooters, but you should definitely put modeling down. Most schools google you ANYWAY. And theres nothing wrong with bikini as long as you dont have any nudes, your fine. I'm a model too and i feel that it strengthened my app. I wrote that in my PS. - it made me a more outgoing person, taught me how to deal with all sorts of situation including conflict, allowed me to meet a lot of different people-- networking. So in my opinion thats a plus. Schools want someone whos outgoing. And with your fabulous GPA no way theyr gonna think of you as a "dumb blond" 🙂

Instead of putting dow nthat you were a Hooter's girl why do not just list public servant😀. But really. I would suggest putting down that you were wait staff in the food service industry?

I completely get what you mean about the persona that Hooter's has with respect to woman but you honestly need to calm you concerns and let you scores, gpa and ps speak for themselves.

My sister works at Hooters so I absolutely understand the scrutiny that you ladies face. Most of the folks I know that have a warped perception of Hooters have never been there. I hate how people have things to say when they have no idea what they're talking about. It just irks me!

But anyways, I would go with what you mentioned and put that you were a server just to be on the safe side. Although we would hope that adcoms can be objective, you never know. I doubt that you won't get any interviews based solely on that but you don't wanna take any chances. Good luck!
 
I was a male model for Abercrombie and Fitch and I put that on my application. I don't think it's the same thing though.
 
Like others have said, just be vague about it. It gets the point across that you kept yourself busy. If you have a good gpa and dat, they won't even mention it in an interview.

It just doesn't make sense to mess around with risks if you have a solid academic application that's going to get you into schools anyway.

why not just say "worked as a server at a large restaurant" I mean if it was a random named restaurant like "jinhskfhj" they wouldn't know the differece.
 
as others have said, i would just put server and not name the establishment if you think it may cause an issue. but to be sure, we should probably see some pictures...j/k...kind of

seriously, just dont put the name if you think it may raise concern. if they want to know where, they can ask during an interview
 
I was a male model for a hair product company. I did not find it relevant to include on my application.
 
This could go great or horrible.

Odds are if a man is reading your ap your interview chances will increase 10fold.

If a female is reading it then your odds will decrease 10 fold.

Well it WOULD be relevant if it meant you worked while you were a full time student, volunteering, and shadowing. It shows you can handle a busy schedule and that you have time management. It's even better when you get straight A's while doing so :laugh:
 
While not the same, I worked at a cigar shop during undergrad and grad school and I listed it on my app. We all know how big a no-no tobacco is in our profession. Didn't hurt me and, in fact, the admissions director jokes with me about it still.

I agree. Being a male model once or twice is not the same as working at a restaurant for an extended amount of time.

maintaining good academics simultaneously, more power to you! i'd say put it. adcoms are supposed to, by some kind of by-law i would assume, be unbiased to all actions of an applicant. so all students are given a chance to be screened (not interviewed/admitted) equally, regardless of grades, work experience, criminal record, etc.
 
go with the Restaurant Server for the aadsas app. That way it won't be a factor regardless of who views your application, or who eventually interviews you, and it won't be lingering in your mind.

i'm just got back from an interview yesterday and they DO look at your employment history and ask you about it. i had 2 female interviewers and you could too..so you know where i'm going with this.
 
I depends. If that was your only job, and you worked there for five years then put it, and milk it for all it's worth (no pun intended.)

Hooter's is not a bad place, my friends take their kids (ages 2-9) there.

It shows interpersonal skills, ability to handle multiple tasks successfully and deal with inevitable mistakes with patience and humility. Can't work as a server if you can't take criticism, right?
 
Go with waitress or restaurant server, and advertising.... if they want more details, they can ask during the interview. I would not leave off any work experience as it demonstrates both a work ethic and capacity to multitask and remain academically focused. Best of luck.

p.s. anyone with your work history will likely make a very successful dentist.. or dermatologist should you change your mind and go that route (I'd go to you). best wishes

Even if it adds to your application, I dunno if I would take my chances... you never know if one of the app officers might be a super-anti Hooters person...

Otherwise, if you decide to put it on, then maybe come up with a creative/clever answer if they ask you about it? Somehow relate it to dentistry, so that you can show that the things you learned from your job helps you become a better candidate, and not just talk about it as some job where you wore short shorts to make money. 😛

I disagree. That's why its a committee and most likely a very diverse one. A job is a job is a job.

EDIT: IMO, no reason for an explanation other than you did it because it paid better than any other job you could get as college student. Beats the hell out of the app that never had to work.
