I understand that most medical schools have psychology as a recommended class. I took AP psych in high school and got a 5 on my exam. My college only accepted a 5 on psych as a means of skipping the intro psych class, but it did not give any credit for the course.

I never took a psych class in college (other than psychological statistics), so my transcript looks like I did not take a psych class in college, and it does not show that I took an AP course.

How do I go about showing medical schools that I actually have taken a psych class before? Do I just have to hope they allow this to slide since it's mostly a recommendation?

Get a good score on the psych section of the MCAT? I don't know if schools will care

The simple answer is that you haven't taken a psych class before, at least not that they would care about! It's recommended, not required, so it's not worth stressing about, but med schools are not going to care about a class you took in HS that you did not receive college credit for, so there really is nothing to show them. If they cared, they'd ask for HS transcripts.

If anything, the trend goes the other way, and for prereqs, they often don't accept the AP credit even if the UG granted it, and they want to see upper level courses in the same subject. There is nothing you can do to satisfy a med school class recommendation by showing them an AP class from HS, even with a 5 on the exam, that the UG did not grant credit for.
