Any thoughts on Hopkins. A faculty member that I met from another top program told me he thought Hopkins was overrated and did not deserve its reputation as a top ob/gyn department. But from my experience, I cannot figure out why. I thought the residents seemed intelligent, hardworking, but very down to earth. The faculty seemed very academic and research oriented. Also their fellowship placement was amazing. Anyone have any more insight?

I have been pretty impressed by the history of surgical leadership of the Hopkins program. I think that it is reflected in the list of goals they have for residents. In particular, by the end of the third year they should be able to do bowel and bladder repairs.

This is not something I have seen at other programs. I can't comment on the nebulous "overrated" statement though.

I'm not sure either where the "over-rated" label came from, but my experience with their graduates at work as well as on the fellowship interview trail has been nothing but positive (i.e. well read, well trained, well spoken, all around good docs)

From the med student perspective, the ob/gyn dept sucks. Everybody hates that rotation and most of the residents in the program. There are too many snobby bitches with attitude problems.

The faculty generally speaking was good (especially Jessica Bienstock, she's fabulous).... but the residents were all malignant bitches.
