I have a friend who will graduate next year and she is shocked to see how low offers coming from s. Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County) are. She said the offers she is getting are in the 165-185k/yr for 7 days on and 7 days off.

Anyone working in south Florida or know someone who is working there can talk about how much they are making...

big city, not surprising...if she wants more, she can probably look an hour outside and will find in the 200k range.

If willing to go closer to panhandle (eg Pensacola) she might see closer to 300 even.

Edit: Just realized SOUTH Florida is not there. You have to cut this New Englander some slack, to me everything is south. Ha

That’s too low even for South Florida. Primary care salaries are higher than this.

How about Northern Florida, such as Mayo Jacksonville or Shands? How much would I expect from the academic center?

Panhandle? >$300,000.

I’ve heard numbers between $200K and $250K for cities like Orlando, Jacksonville, and Tampa; I couldn’t tell you about perks or RVUs or bonuses or hours or any other details that would help.

Did she get any other perks? Because that sounds disheartening and very low

That’s $10k/week for 26 weeks of work. Assuming 7x12hr shifts, it’s $120/hr which is meh.

OP’s friend is getting an offer of $80/hr....yikes.

I guess it's hard to make 250k+/yr working regular hospitalist hours (7 days on/off) in the most desirable cities (or counties) in the US.

She is getting better offers in some rural part of the deep south and the Midwest.

Yup

If you want to live and work in NYC, Chicago, Miami, DC, expect lower salaries

If you’re willing to live within an hour of a large city or commute outside then you might find better paying hospitalist gigs

If you want to swim in a vat of gold coins Scrooge style, rural is the way to go
