Hello,
I will be attending UPENN's Post-Bac program starting in the Fall of 2006. I am looking to rent a small studio in a relatively close, safe, quiet(ish), and affordable area. Runner friendly too! Preferably something less than $800/mo. (I feel like I am beginning to sound like Lindsay Lohan w/ all my requests...minus the rent limitations). Does anyone have any suggestions, advice, etc.? I've been told Rittenhouse Sq. and Fairmount were good options.
I currently residing in San Diego and won't be able to make it to Philly until mid-August so any help would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS! 🙂

howdy,

philly resident here. rittenhouse will probably be difficult to get for <$800, but you might be able to find something if you look around. fairmount is fun, and you could be better off finding something there - although you're a bit out of "center city" once you start looking there. do you have a car? bike?

you might want to consider living over by penn (university city/west philly), depending on whether you have a car/bike or not and/or mind taking public transit. i lived in a studio for <$600 over by 47th/pine. the only thing is that univ. city is kind of a "bubble", and somewhat outside of center city (again), but you'd be very close to campus.

also, craigslist is a very good resource for philly housing.

if you have any more questions, pm me. 🙂

I'm going to suggest the area of spruce/pine and 13th. I know quite a few students who have lived there. One is a penn med student. Its a relatively nice neighborhood (fondly called the gayborhood by the locals) that puts you near everything. Also you're only a few blocks away from Jefferson hospital system (and the med school).

My best advice is to look near subway lines or if you want to live close and ride your bike (don't drive too expensive to park).
