How Accurate is predent.com

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It is definitely NOT a reliable source for seats filled/ acceptances. If you look at past cycles i.e. 2009, you will find that even last year's cycle will in most abundant cases not have close to the seats filled. Even though obviously all schools filled their seats last year.

So to sum things up no it is not a good source for that content. I'd wager it's not even that good of a source for stats like gpa/DAT because it is usually skewed to the higher GPAs/DAT scores of the students applying in said cycle.

I wouldn't say the information on the website is accurate. It has its functions tho. I use it to compare my GPA and GPA of people who got accepted/rejected/waitlisted in certain school.

It will not be accurate in seats getting filled because the website is only used by a small portion of students who apply every year. Also, like poster above said, it's likely that people with high GPA will post their stat thus GPA would be skewed.

People aren't always truthful about their stats, so its only as accurate as the people who report to it.
Not every pre-dent student uses SDN or is registered w/ predents, so you can't REALLY go based off of pre-dents alone.

However, I think predents is useful in a ton of ways and it really is a pretty cool tool at your disposal. Even though it doesn't show all of the applicants and their applications, it does give you an idea of
What other students are bringing to the table. It also gives you an idea about the other schools that students are interested in.

As with any user-generated content, including SDN...crap in = crap out. It is up to the users to be TRUTHFUL and accurately represent themselves for the data to reflect reality. Also, I feel more of the upper-echelon users utilize sites like predents and SDN. Their numbers tend to shift your perceived bell curve to the right.

If you are looking for the most accurate data, get ADEA official guide to dental schools, or look up info on the individual DS's site.
