So I received a D in a class twice. The second time I was sick for almost two months, with the flu, pneumonia, and pneumonia again. I did alright in my other classes as I started off well, however, not with the class I failed because the class is based solely off exams.

My question is my GPA is already bad at 3.0 and I'm going to do a masters program. In the long run will this effect me? Will admissions committee look at this and look down upon me even if I had a legitimate illness.

what class is it?

That's no bueno. That 3.0 is in the danger zone. I would actually take spring classes if I were you and raise it to maybe a 3.1 or 3.2. THEN do masters in the fall for a year and make sure you don't get anything less than a 3.7 or 3.8. It seems like people with high masters grades can be quite successful given that they had an upward trend in undergrad, have a total of above 3.0 and got the good DAT scores and ECs to go along with the application.

3.0's can barely get you into nursing programs these days. If its in any of the pre-reqs for D-school, i'd say you're not in a good position. Even with a solid 22 on the DAT your chances arent fantastic. Def take the advice you are receiving above. Good luck

I also failed a class twice genera biology 1 got a D+ from my community college but for some reason it got transfer to my state university..Now I took general chemistry 1 and fail it with an F retook it and now im waiting for my grade result...I also failed Biology 2 cause it was a big transition to me. Should I continue on biology on should i do a postbac later on?

PostBac might not be an option, choose a different path

that's exactly what I plan to do. I'm going to stay an extra semester and load up on science classes to boost my gpa as much as possible, then go onto my masters.
This worked for me more or less Well, I was outta school so I did masters to finish a couple of prereqs as electives whilst doing my masters core classes. If I were you, I'd take the DATs summer of 2013 so you get it out of the way. Aim for 20+. It's easier said than done but def takes discipline. You seriously can't have a MS GPA of less than 3.7. I've seen people burn their last route by flopping their masters degree and not get in anywhere. It's sort of like the last thing that can help you if you blew your undergrad grades. Also apply to at least 15 schools, since you'll be weeded out purely by your grades at many schools. No one really knows what's an absolute cut off. It's all sort of arbitrary and vary year by year. You want to maximize your chance as much as possible.

CC credits aren't accepted at some dental schools, and repeating and failing time after time is definitely making things worse. Something's obviously not working out. You might want to look into ratemyprofessor.com and try to get into easier classes. Unless you get a C or higher, your grades won't be accepted. And straight C's won't get you anything either. You really need to get As and Bs.

ok, this may sound brutal but failing easy classes does not look good. Your GPA is 3.0 , what's about science GPA? BCP? . I honest advice is take a 1 year MA program first before you apply (as others have said). There are people on here with 3.0 or under that got accepted into dental schools but that is far from the norm (look for the under3.0 club thread). If your DAT is great, and you have money to spend or if there is some thing unique about you, then go ahead and apply. Hey, doesn't hurt to try (except your pocket).

i have all my gen ed classes taken already but now i have to choose a concentration field, I decided to change my bio degree to economic and do the pre requesite for Med school on the side. I only need to retake my bio's classes and aim for good grade.....or should i just do the economic degree and then do a posbac and start fresh just with all the sciences course.....and i won't give up on my dream easily just cause i fail those classes...there's only one professor that offer bio and the highest grade average in her class is a 50 she's horrible and hard. should i do my posbac at other institution after i graduate from this school? right now my science gpa is a 2.0 but cause i fail bios on my first semester in college.

I don't want to choose a different field,,,,what i'll do is take a break and come back after i put all my $h!t together..

You're toast.

You can try to explain yourself but I doubt it'll be taken seriously by the dental schools

Agreed, failing such fundamental courses raises all kinds of red flags, best of luck

OP: you still have a shaky chance, as long as the class is not a pre-req. afterall, you could explain reasons why you got double D's.
bella0121 thread hijacker: as of right now, you have no chance. get your act together and get A's

I think all HS grads should take a yr or 2 before going straight to college, some students are simply not ready for it. I was never one of those gifted students, but I buckled down and studied my ass off knowing that I wanted to go to D-school, anything less than a B+ was simply not an option for me. Only you control your own destiny...get it together

That's a big red flag. 🙁
