So long story short, it looks like I'm probably on track to apply next cycle. However, for various reasons, I won't be taking Ochem 1 until the first summer session next year (I'll take Ochem 2 after I have applied in the Fall of '13).

This means I won't be able to apply until June 29th at the earliest. I'll be taking the MCAT around that time too, so depending on when my scores come back it might be even later. Do you guys think this is fine, or should I wait until the next year to apply (June 2014)?

not a problem at all...june and july are both considered early

Seriously, you will be fine. Don't worry what you read here on SDN. Applying even in late July is on the early side. You will be okay.

You don't have to have all the pre reqs complete to apply but you must complete them before you matriculate. You can apply early and still have your advantage. Just make sure you note on AACOMAS ( and AMCAS if applying MD as well) your future classes. Then send the updates on your class grades to the schools after to finish the classes. Super easy. Also MCAT score doesn't need to be in yet as long as you note the future testing date on the primary. Lots of people do this stuff just look around the school specific threads. Apply in early June 2013.

No worries, I applied in August and got 4 interviews and 2 acceptances, and I was an underdog.

It takes 4-6 weeks to verify your transcripts and 4-5 weeks to get an MCAT score back and link up with your AACOMAS application, so the earlier you get those out of the way, the better.

You are also military... has a bit of an advantage.

When sending updated grades after finishing classes (say, after fall semester), how long does AACOMAS take to verify those new grades and update the GPA?

I'd like to know this too.

To continue on this note most schools don't even want you to send in a transcript.( However if they do they will ask you for one after you update them). You just send in a formal update email and tell them what you got and they take in on trust. If they accept you then you send in your final transcripts and they confirm if you still qualify. So don't think you can send in BS, they will find out, hunt you down and end you....

Wow is this what SDN does to people? Makes them consider waiting a year if they will be applying in late June?

Please do yourself a favor and take everything said here with a grain of salt. There is a lot of good info but some of it is frosted with neuroticism. I will be applying in August and am perfectly fine with that.

THIS. 👍 I wish this could be displayed in bold letters next to the sdn logo on top of this site.

To me, applying "a month late" means applying in September. August = borderline, so therefore September is "1 month late". However, if you mean applying "one month later than the earliest possible" (e.g July) then you are fine.

Thanks for your help everyone. I think I'll just apply June 1st next year and update the schools on my progress.

It's about as bad as you're girlfriend (or you) being a month late on her period....better go Caribbean =(

It's that bad, huh?!?!? Hahaha

Make sure to find out when your school updates transcripts. I waited so my summer classes would be on my transcripts and as it turned out, my school updated their policy this summer and won't update transcripts until mid-august....had I known I could have submitted on day 1.
