How do loans for disadvantaged students (LDS) work?

I was checking out some financial aid pages and I saw that dental students can get LDS which I’m assuming is offered by the government when you fill out your FAFSA, but I can’t find much about how it works.

Are these loans on top of the 50,000 Direct Unsubsidized limit? Is it a lower interest portion of them? Or is it something else entirely? I’m curious because I appear to qualify for them if I get into dental school.
