HEY you guys anyone know of the link that states all the science courses or what is science and what is non?

Members don't see this ad.

Yea I have already applied in last cycle. Last night I was looking for the form that they used to have and can't find it online either.

Just to add to this thread, do classes like PSYC and Sociology count as Social/Behavioral sciences...they did last cycle. So I put them down as other science.

Where did you get this information? This wasn't the case last year. And my nutrition class at UCSD was a biochem class so I counted it under BCP. I guess I'll have to call AADSAS again.

That was helpful! thank you.

Hey I just got the following off of AADSAS's FAQ section undercoursework...

Q: I am having trouble classifying some of my courses. How do I decide to classify my classes as BCP-Other Science-Non Science?

A: Use the examples offered inside the Coursework section of the application as a guideline. Use your best judgment in determining the best placement of your courses.

Occasionally, applicants have questions about whether they should count a particular course as a BCP or Other Science course, even though it is not taught in a BCP or Other Science department. For example:
A student may take an upper-level psychology course such as "The Physiology of the Brain" that is heavily based in the biological sciences; that course can be counted as a BCP course, even though it was offered through the Department of Psychology, a "Non Science" department.

An engineering student took Chemistry for Engineers. This course can be considered a BCP course, even though it was offered through the College of Engineering, an "Other Science" department.

A dental hygiene student took these two courses:
Principles of Pathology, a course offered through the Department of Dental Hygiene. This course can be considered a BCP course, even though it was offered through Dental Hygiene, an "Other Science" department.

Treating Pediatric Patients, another Dental Hygiene course would be considered an "Other Science" course because its focus is primarily clinical.

A medical technology student took these two courses:
Hematology, a course offered through the Department of Medical Technology. This course can be considered a BCP course, because it deals with the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system. Even though it was offered through the Department of Medical Technology, an "Other Science" department, it would be considered BCP.
Clinical Laboratory Safety and Phlebotomy, two other Medical Technology courses would be considered "Other Science" courses because their focus is primarily clinical.

So I was right, except that my upper division psychology course should be under BCP because it was based heavily on the brain and effects of different drugs on neurotransmitters and such....hope this helps somebody.

I figured it would be silly to start another thread for a minor question, so here it goes. Would a class titled "Physical science" be considered a BCP or just put into the Science gpa? It is kind of like a low science level, forensics class.

What about lower division biopsychology this was all about neurotransmitters and the brain? And Abnormal Psychology dealing with more neurotransmitters, dopamine and drugs etc?

Also Biological Anthropology

So would those go under science?

Wasn't there a link last year on what classes should be under science or nonscience?

Yea but according to life is good it doesn't matter, as long as there's science involved in the course.

I think this was the list they used last year. It is much more thorough then they have up this year.

Ok so what happens if i put my biological anthro, biopsych and abnormal psych as other science.

Are there consequences if their not other science will this create problems or extend my application turn around time, or will adsass when their doing the transcript check redo it and put it into the right categories?

I think all of us are a little confused so maybe we should call AADSAS and ask...in fact I'll do that right now and let you all know what they say.

OKAY, I just spoke to AADSAS Customer service and they told me that they are working on a form just like the one from last year, only it will classify all classes under one of the 3 sections (BCP, Other & Non science). That is why the FAQ section says...."Use the examples offered inside the Coursework section of the application as a guideline. Use your best judgment in determining the best placement of your courses...." These examples will be on this form they are currently working on. They told me to keep checking back but if I needed clarification on any classes they would help. SO, if you plan on turning in your app prior to its completion I would call AADSAS and they will clarify which category you should place your particular courses under.

Good luck all! 👍

I have a bunch of classes, averaging a 3.0, from an audio engineering program.

My Science classes (not counting math) average a 3.7.

My math averages about a 2.8. 🙁

Last year I just put everything as either Science or Non-science, and if it wasn't in the Bio/Physics/Chem category, I put Non-science.

Now it looks like my C in Calc IV and other lovely black marks on my academic record are going to drag my science GPA into the gutter...despite the fact that when taking Chem, Physics and Bio I was consistently on the Dean's List.
