How do you dress for cold interviews?
Started by mangler
Yeah, they usually have a coat rack inside.
I was worried about this but honestly the schools don't really care. Coming from Florida I felt like I needed to have a 1200$ leather overcoat to match my suit but it doesn't matter. If you are a guy, wear a suit then wear any jacket really, even if it doesn't match you can take it off before walking into the building / the interview room. The schools will have a coat rack. I wore a 50$ puffy jacket that didn't match my suit at all but it never mattered since nobody saw it 😉

I wore an overcoat, so admissions knew I wasn't messing around with style.
Buy a peacoat and a scarf, and for kicks - fashionable gloves

Get a trenchcoat, just got one from Banana Republic while it was on sale for $60. Warm interior and heavy exterior acting as a windbreaker and resistant to water, it's also a beige neutral color that can match with professional attire such as a grey suit for example. It also matches with casual wear so you won't be purchasing it for a one time use and then never wearing it again, great edition to any man's closet particularly for the autumn and winter season.

I wear snowpants waking to the school, then just leave them on for my interview LOL

Thank God or whoever you believe in that you don't have to attend interviews where it's over 50 degrees outside and your suit makes you sweat like a pig. I had to keep my jacket on even during lunches because I had pit stains down to my ribs. I would've killed to be able to interview in the winter. I have no idea how people can get cold in any temperature wearing a suit.
Same here. I was dying in Marquette's research lab tour. Of course the polyester dress shirt I had didn't help
No joke. I just did my interview at MWU-AZ. They were all commenting about how "cold" of a day it was at 65 degF. "This is probably the coldest day we'll see in Phoenix" I was wiping sweat off my forehead regardless. I swear they had the heat on inside the building.
I couldn't imagine going for an interview there anytime between July and October.

Those people are out of their minds. Unless I'm outside and it's in the 20's, if I'm wearing a suit I'm sweating.
Can confirm, we are all freezing here with highs in the 60s. Even some of the people I talk to that moved to Glendale from the north talk about how they have already forgotten how to deal with cold weather.

To be fair though, it's the lows in the 40s that are killing me. I moved here from central Florida and the desert is much colder than I expected.

I'm pretty much the same way and it sucks. That's another reason why I love winter. I recently interviewed at UIC and during the tour they were fixing the heating system or something and some rooms that we went into were probably 80-83 degrees, it was awful in a suit.Dude, I don't know if I pity you or envy you. I excessively sweat any time I have to wear long sleeves in doors, but on the other hand it probably isn't fun worrying about what to wear. I am in default shorts and t-shirt until I need to conform to other people's expectations, which is when the long pants and sleeves come out.
After the interview I walked outside and when the 45 degree air hit me it was the nicest feeling ever.

I walked into the building with snow boots and changed into heels in the lobby. I just stored my boots with my coat
